Title: Mediocre and frustrating

Review: I purchased this book because it was the most recently published [2020] book for this topic in laboratory medicine. However, it appears as though this is a self-publication / ego project. The text has numerous typos and there is no indication of
a formal publishing house (no less an academic publishing house).
Problems with this book include:
1.) Lack of differential diagnoses. The book is very basic; this is not the book for you if you are a lab tech, a lab tech student, a medical student, or resident. There just isn’t enough detail on differential diagnoses for these tests. This book
could be good for a high school or college class about lab tests or for introduction to nursing students, but I am not sure for whom else it might be appropriate.
2.) Poor organization: The Table of contents is very basic. It is arranged into organ systems : Cardiovascular, Immunology, Renal, etc. and there is no sub-table of contents to describe the lab tests within each of these sections. Thus, if you are
looking for the brain natriuretic peptide [BNP] test you must know that it would be in the cardiology section and go looking for it. Btw, the books does not cover this important cardiology test.
3.) The book is missing many important lab tests in the major sections (like the BNP noted above). It is difficult to tell how many tests are missing.
4.) The book has no index. Again, like the lack of detail in the table of contents, this leads to an inability to find a specific test if you are looking for that one specific test (or test panel).
5.) Testing: the books has suggestions for what type of specimen tube is collected and what type of test is performed (nephelometry, etc.) but it does not list out more than one alternative to indicate that more tests for the analyte are available; nor
does it even briefly go over explanation of the assays or issues associated with them. There is the occasional mention of issue of interference, but not in an organized fashion or in a way that suggest a methodical approach to dealing with this in the
lab or clinic. There was no discussion of laboratory issues such as bias, allowable error, etc.

I quickly gave up on this book because I needed to look up specific lab test for a few projects and I could not find them (either due to them not being included or there being no index to allow easy identification). It was also painful to read through
typos when I knew that the text was rudimentary and would not give me much insight into differentials and cutting edge technology in the lab.

Review: If you work in a lab a lot and are struggling to comprehend the results this is the book for you. Getting yourself familiar with interpreting laboratory values can help you complete your tasks easily. The other wants to make something clear this
book is not a magic wand that gives instant knowledge without any work. You will get in-depth knowledge of the full spectrum of lab test used today. You have to apply take notes and read it several times. You can learn to take the results you get from
completing your test from random numbers and turn it into functional concepts. For reading this book I was able to take my test results and look it down and intuitive multi-dimensional approach to assessing multiple lab tests and integrating them into
something I can understand and use. I really enjoyed the sections that spoke about vitamins and Trace elements and drugs and toxins. Very useful information.

Review: Have you ever had tests run at the doctor's office or a hospital and not quite understood what the results meant? This is a reference book listing many different common lab tests and what the tests are for, what numbers are normal and what the
different elements of the test mean. This is very helpful information to have and to know, and it gives me peace of mind to know that I now have a handy way to look this information up the next time I or a loved one needs to have lab tests run. I highly
recommend this book!

Review: I gave this book 4 stars because it was a great reference for my class. This book helps you to understand the basics of the blood samples collected. It walks you through collecting samples and the testing each sample is used for. It is a great
reference and very useful for students. Even when I graduate next year I will continue to refer to this text to build my personal knowledge of sampling. I loved that the writer made the information simple and not overly complicated. This helped me very
much because sometimes it can be confusing and over explained. Not this book it was straight to the point. I recommend this book and think it will also be one of the books you can keep to help throughout your career. Trust me this book is much needed on
in your personal library!

Title: Goes all in depth about tests preformed at the hospital

Review: This was an interesting read. I was able to get through it and understand it unlike some of the reviews on here said. This book really goes all in depth about tests preformed while one is in the hospital or anything like that. It has 14 different
chapters regarding the different systems in our bodies and the testing done to them. It shows what tests are popularly done. It shows what will be sampled and the technique to do so. It also goes in to show that the normal levels are for each type of
testing.
