• Naggum, Ozymandias Redux

From His Kennyness@21:1/5 to All on Wed Mar 31 16:35:08 2021
Our CTO started an in-house tech talk by asking what we knew about time.

I said I am a Lisper, we got the definitive word from Erik Naggum.

    http://naggum.no/lugm-time.html

I was lucky enough to see Erik present that at LUGM 99.

CTO had it googled and half read before I could find a link. He loved it.

Oddly, neither he nor anyone else on the call had heard of Erik.

Ozymandias, do not feel too bad. https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/46565/ozymandias

Is funny: in computing is no need even to be old to watch the idiot wheel
of endless reinvention turn, endlessly grinding the army of cretin votaries
to a film of blood and crushed bone under its iron rim.

I am too young to remember #\erik but my friend is not, and I still have
the capacity to learn new things by reading: it is not so hard after all.
So I, perhaps will not be crushed as the wheel rolls on.

Too young? I thought you dated yourself a decade or two before him, or
perhaps you were one of his targets here

Was 24 when he died. But sometimes we play games and I write on behalf of others who no longer write.

He was 44 per https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erik_Naggum and he was a
    fixture here.

Not him, me. Sorry, my native language is pro-drop (means you can drop pronouns sometimes when (they) can be inferred as the ones (I) have put in (parens) here) so (I) often omit pronouns in English, which is not
pro-drop, by mistake if (I) write too lazily. So Naggum was 20 years older than me and (I) was 24 when he died at 44 is what I meant.
