    Forth has been active in many ways for the last 50+ years.

    If somebody here is missing the usual entertainment program
    over the Christmas period this is very sad to hear.

    But at least it is clear who it is as he states:

    I will argue less with idiots in the future because they get me

    The rest of us are enjoying the time with family and friends

    and hopefully more Forth soon.
    Best Wishes for 2023.

    I wonder, how limited your life experience is.
    It is your decision to buy anything and keep it or give it as a present. Related to Christmas or normal life - e.g. food ...

    I rarely wonder how limited dxforths life experience is. I often find
    myself wondering how limited yours is.

    It is your decision to buy anything and keep it or give it as a present.
    Stating the obvious has a high "Sheldon Cooper" content. But thank
    you for explaining it to our mortals. We needed it, I suppose.

    Nice fun fact: Einstein never got the Nobel price for his Theory of
    Relativity.

    Related to Christmas or normal life - e.g. food ..
    Other fun fact: given you have a good caterer, you can do this every day
    of the year.

    I adore your negativity.
    I wish would we could all share that capacity. It would make it so much
    easier to enjoy your posts.

    I wondered, who this Allinger guy is.
    well the Internet answers it, comments from Germany of people who know him:

    Reminds me of the great programs "Goodbye Germany" etc.

    Nothing achieved here in Germany, move to a poor country
    emigrate because there is not enough money for more
    and then try imposing your will on poor people... Do you actually notice it?

    Just stay away from other people when you do that,
    if you are overwhelmed to adapt.
    You went there voluntarily -
    they didn't come to you.
    Already forgotten this within a week?

    It's good for us here in Germany that you're gone,
    but for the people in PY I feel already sorry

    By the way, I change my mind: Feel free to share your experiences here
    keep writing. I'm curious how else you are embarrassing yourself.

    Thanks for showing your personality again.

    We live in a free world still
    and I comment as I want as you do.
    Might be different where you live.

    Well, I can remember some coversation, where you deny that
    rights to others - under the disguise that you tend to "protect the
    greater Forth community". That's all good and fine, but the question remains: who protects us from you?

    It seems you post bullshit again, as you binned the proof.
    Just making it up as you go along so it suits you.

    In our free world there is a legal system

    I hate to tell you, but you will never win arguing with JP. No matter what the topic or the point of discussion, he will either bludgeon you with invectives or start digging up "dirt" on you to "expose" you to the world.

    He thinks he is doing good for the Forth community, but he basically just stirs the s**t when anyone posts something he doesn't like. The irony is, this is one of the least read, dark corners of the Internet. If he called you a child rapist, you would
    have a hard time proving damages in court, because no one would ever read what he wrote.

    JP could be a positive influence for Forth. But from what he posts here, he is a poster child for the raving lunatics that people think use Forth. Because of people like him and Hugh, I don't recommend this group to anyone interested in Forth. You
    just never know when the bomb is going to go off. So I try not to light any matches here. I'm sure this post will get some sort of a rant from him. But my point is it is much better to ignore what he says, no matter how foul. Certainly responding in
    kind is very non-productive.

    AMEN.

    You are definitely improving on the size of your bullshit heap.
    And your wording underlines/exposes your ugly character.
    You now got the entertainment program you asked for.

    And I can now just lean back, shake my head and agree

    And can sit back, get some of the Forth Books out that I published.
    And flick through them and learn something. Or just enjoy reading.
    Most of the published books are about Forth.
    This was at a time when I had a positive opinion about this community here. Nothing to do with the language, there are groups about Forth where normal people live.
    And I do appreciate working with the people wo wrote them and allowed to publish them,
    so they do not disappear.

    It is interesting to see as well, that basically none of them ever post here.

    And as a bit of fun I looked once again at this group of Bestsellers on amazon https://www.amazon.com/best-sellers-books-Amazon/zgbs/books/3970/ref=zg_bs_pg_2?_encoding=UTF8&pg=2

    As of today 31 12 2022 9.27 - as it changes constantly
    11 of the books I published are in there today - most of them about Forth.
    11 of the top 100 means 10%+ - not bad for a fun project of an outsider

    Some surprises regarding what people are interested in ...
    11 Pintaske - A Start with Forth ( not Starting Forth)
    26 Chuck - Programming a Problem Oriented Language
    42 Ting next - eForth Overview
    68 non-Forth - but about the much loved CDP1802 processor
    73 Ting - Zen and the Forth Language
    74 Ting - The Arduino controlled by eForth
    80 Pintaske - A Start with Forth ( not Starting Forth) as eBook
    83 Brad - Moving Forth
    88 Chuck - as eBook
    89 Ting - eForth and Zen
    98 non-Forth - Cheepit Sparrow

    It is just unfortunate, that Leo Brodie's eBook version of Starting Forth
    does not appear here to give him the credit he deserves https://www.amazon.co.uk/Starting-Forth-Leo-Brodie-ebook/dp/B01MS7YDKD
    But people probably download it foc as PDF from the Forth INC. website

    I can close this year now on the positive.

    I don't think I actually communicated with you, any more than I do with JP, well, maybe somewhat more, as my discussions with JP are like using a pea shooter to contact an elephant.

    You say you are getting dirty wrestling with a pig, but then you continue to wrestle.

    Maybe you enjoy it a bit as well?

    I wrote "I forgot", why didn't you accept this :(

    AMEN.

    You are definitely improving on the size of your bullshit heap.
    And your wording underlines/exposes your ugly character.
    You now got the entertainment program you asked for.

    And I can now just lean back, shake my head and agree
    that this group is definitely the one with the largest collection of whatever you want to call them.

    Please try to find your reading glasses -
    The hint to Forth INC. is what I had posted as well already.

    And in addition you can download it as free PDF from my website. http://www.exemark.com/FORTH.htm
    I first made it as PDF - as well showing that Forth INC agreed to this.
    In 2013,
    and this link had been posted many times over the years.
    Here and in many other places - free to download.
    This was actually available there on my website
    BEFORE the material was available on the Forth INC. website.

    This was my start of making Forth material available on amazon.
    If you know how to use google you can find much of the Forth material
    free on the Internet - but not as bound book.
    And I had quite a few Thank You emails over the years to be able to get them as books.

    Oh, that's very clear. I don't know why JP keeps spamming the likes
    of us here - since not only do we know *where* we can get it for free -
    we probably all have a collection of those PDFs anyway.

    Very simply put , so you understand it as well:

    There are people on this planet - except you as you state of course,
    who do not know what to search for about Forth if they are interested and want to get started.
    And this helps.
    I started this Forth Bookshelf for fun,
    when I did consulting work for MPE,
    and it just continued.
    I might do a few more in the future.

    There are more than 450 views here,
    so slightly more than the few who posted here ...

    I bought the book. Don't look at it anymore. I use the standard document.

    When I need to write VHDL, I have to refresh my memory on syntax and details. Tons of good stuff on the web. Sometimes existing sites fade away though and you have to find and learn new ones. That's a shame.

    When I want to write Forth, I've yet to find a good web site for refreshing one's memory... assuming I still have one. So the standard, with my notes, is pretty much all I've got. Teaching tools are not so good for references. What is more useful is a
    "how to" guide that can lead you to the various techniques. I've not really seen that for Forth. I think it's partly because of the Maverick nature of Forth. Forth people do things very differently. I mean, the language has only the most basic array
    support. That says a lot!

    Great post and link,
    leads to my book on the MPE website:

    Copied from there:

    Forth Lite Tutorial - Juergen Pintaske

    A Forth Tutorial based around the free MPE VFX Forth.
    The code will also work on nearly all modern Forths that adhere to the ANS and/or Forth200x standards.
    The material is derived from a tutorial by Leo Wong.

    Learning by Doing.

    The best way to learn the computer language Forth is to try it out.

    As is is interactive, you see the results immediatly.
    You'll find the questions and the answers in the eBook.
    You can also download the MPE Forth Compiler software, try out the examples
    - and then design and try your own examples.

    Available as an eBook (Kindle edition) from Amazon.

    Unfortunately not updated there - now as well available as Print book...

    Interactivity makes the learning loop shorter, but not always easier. You can learn about maybe half the forth vocabulary this way, things like . and @ and !, etc. The other half is much more esoteric and really needs good books to learn from. I think
    this has always been very lacking and I don't see an end in sight. This in no small part due to the nature of "every man for himself" when it comes to getting things done, that are already done for you in other languages.

    Individuality is both a plus in Forth, and a minus.

    It is really unfortunate, that after more than 50 years of Forth,
    there are still no well defined and well prepared routes,
    to get interested parties from start to finish.
    At least to a certain level.

    And at least to my limited knowledge.
    Please correct me if there are
    and post the links to help others.

    The commercal Forth companies seem to have never been big enough to invest there either.
    Or the different Forth groups.
    When I entered the Forth community about 10 years ago, I had the same problem to learn.
    I do own the original Starting Forth,
    given to me as a Thank You by a happy customer in the UK many moons ago,
    and started my Forth Bookshelf to help a little bit there, during my learning and for others, a fun project.
    I got great support from many, especially the German Forth-eV.de.

    And I do appreciate very much the ok
    from the many people who generated the material,
    so I could go through the work to convert them for publishing on amazon.
    A lot more work than I had anticipated.
    They appreciated my interest in their work and to have it visible worldwide.
    as part of a collection in one place,
    as eBook,
    and as print book.
    And people who want it all for free, just use your search engine.
    So all aspects are covered.

    IMHO, it always starts like this:
    - Cool thingy - let's see how it works;
    - Great! I can write 5 or 10 starts on the screen - this is easy;
    - Now lets try to write a real program.

    1. It doesn't work - stack overflow or underflow;
    2. Bring in ROLL and PICK in order to pick up a few bad habits on the way;
    3. Let's add some more code to this function like we do in Python;
    4. Breaks apart completely;
    5. .S doesn't offer much insight;
    6. More "2DUP TYPE";
    7. More "We're here!";
    8. I don't like this - it was so much easier to do in Python;
    9. Let's do Python.

    Most of 'em break down before they start filling in the missing
    functionality.

    Forth is hard. I tried very much to document proper ways to approach
    this language - as I see the way it should be done. There's lots of horrible code out there - even from veterans. And although I don't consider myself
    to be one of the worst - often people find ingenious ways to vastly improve
    my code.

    But that's good. It builds humility and offers a fresh new view of how
    things can be done.

    I take off my hat, bow deeply and say thank you ;-)
