I noticed that programs compiled under 16-bit windows will not run under win10.

Especially true for programs compiled under DOS. IIRC, a com file was a memory limited executable file that was only generated under DOS.

However, I was able to get the 80's era executables to run in a DOSBOX on Ubuntu.

I also tried to un-arc the files using peazip. Peazip reports that the archives are password protected. How odd.

Anyway, the DOSBOX trick on linux worked for me.

16-bit applications are definitely not supported under 64-bit Windows 10, but I believe they may still work under 32-bit Windows 10 (and yes, Windows 10 32-bit can still be kept current, I have one of those machines tucked away in the corner at home!).
Maybe if I get a few extra minutes I'll go see if I can grab some 16-bit software to test on my 32-bit Windows 10 machine.

I contacted Cole Brecheen, one of the authors, via LinkedIn, and he very enthusiastically gave us permission to make these files available for public distribution.
