I went away from Clarion after v7. Because I still have C6 and C55 apps, I am considering coming back.
Looking for conversation about how to best do that, is it viable, etc.
Anything you can add would be much appreciated.
Regards,
Dave Schwartz
PS: Are there any other groups for Clarion?
Clarion 11 is well and truly OK and stable and a far different animal
from C7
There's a heap of groups at news.softvelocity.com
Also have a look at www.clarionhub.com

Sean,
Thank you for the response. A couple more questions...
1. Is the underlying programming language still the same?
ABC?
Legacy?
2. Have they worked through the bugginess in the IDE?
Remember that I've not tried it since v7.
3. My litmus test for Clarion has always been, "Can I take the tutorial and have it work?"
My limited experience with 7, as well as all the previous versions was that "gold" was deserving of "bronze" because there were so many workarounds that had to be discovered.

Yes. Both supported

C7 was your basic pile of poo. It was the C3(DOS) of the modern era. It
was certainly a huge step forward, but it was a muddy step on rocky
ground in a dark place.
The iterations since then have improved steadily. C8 was usable and what
7 should really have been, C9 really usable, C11 still has the odd wart,
but it makes going back to anything else seem a step back.
Since 7 it has improved a LOT. I don't like going back any more.
Particularly because I use 2 screens now. Not something <7 supported

I think I answered this above. But I won't argue with your assessment of gold.

LOL, and there's me plugging along with C6 :)
It does look like C9 finally added unicode support, but for the few
instances I need it I'll manage on my own.

Arrg!!
I occasionally have to go back to C6 and it REALLY shows its age now.
There are a very very few things it had that I would like in C11. But
the additions in the IDE MORE than make up for it. The ability to copy-paste just about anything is a huge boon for example. The extra
wide template window are magic.
It takes a little getting use to, but is WAY more productive.
You'd have to pay me over the odds to go back.
