Uploading Video, Format to Avoid

Hi,
I am a big fan of YT, but I never uploaded a video
until about 2 weeks ago.
This was made years ago using a BW CCT camera
and recording onto an open reel video recorder.
My son and his friend told me years ago to upload it
to YT because they thought it was very funny.
I decided to make an .MPG recording of that video,
which I had transferred to a DVD.
After I uploaded it, I decided to view it, but it did NOT
play well. I deleted it.
I found a list of video formats for uploading, but it did
NOT contain .MPG.
I converted the .MPG to .WMV and that was AOK
after I uploaded it.
BTW: To see the video, use YouTube's Search and
search for (without quotes):
"Blast Off+John Augustine"
