• If I need a 45 Inch antenna does the diameter of the rod matter?

    Suppose schema says 16 ga copper, I want to use 1/4 Aluminum rod. Will it do the same job?

    Yes. However, you can't take that to extremes. But for most
    applications, a small change in diameter won't matter.
