About 2½ years ago, Peter Jackson sold off the software part of Weta
Digital to well-known game-engine maker Unity Software <

The part he was keeping was renamed “WetaFX”, and was going to become
just another customer for that same software.
Then, late last year, came the news that Unity was laying off hundreds
of staff, including most of those former Weta folk <

I wonder where this leaves WetaFX now?
This happened shortly after Unity made the disastrous decision to
alienate a large part of the user base for its game engine by
demanding more money from smaller game developers.
