• How to make 150 DPI *.jpg with GIMP

From artrotterdamart@gmail.com@21:1/5 to All on Tue Oct 2 09:35:09 2018
For new files GIMP can set the x-Resolution and y-Resolution in pixels per inch (default: 72x72)

I never changed the default, my publisher says he needs 150 DPI, and my files are according to GIMP 96x96. Publisher says they are 118 DPI

One can of course not raise the dots per inch to 150x150, however if it can be done, my art prints files are low resolution

QUESTION how can I make 150 DPI resolution files from files which have low resolution

150 DPI is standard in the on demand printing business

I would use Irfanview to do this job.
With cntr-r you get the resize options and one of them is to change
    the DPI resolution.

    Hi,
using "Image->Print Size" you can adjust the DPI without changing the
    pixel size of the image.

    Hi,
using "Image->Print Size" you can adjust the DPI without changing the
    pixel size of the image.

That or course also changes the actual size of the picture as well. Ie,
if you do not mind your picture which was 6x4 in before now being 3x2
then this would work. However if you want it interpolated so that it is
still 6x4 at 150dpi rather than 6x4 at 72, then you will need to do
something else, like use Image ScaleImage.
Note that sharp edges will no longer be pixel sharp-- they will be
fuzzed out over about 2 pixels instad ( using cubic spline)
If sharp edges are important to you, then you could use "none for interpolation. With an expansion of two (72dpi to 144 or even 150) that
would probably not do too badly. However if you want gradual shading you
would now get "blocks" of colour 2 pixels wide instead of gradual
    shading.

    Chris.

should be 300 dpi in order to account for Nyquist's Theorem

the eyes can resolve 150 lpi

twice the eye, 300 dpi , avoids banding/etc.

No idea what OS you are using, but on linux you could use
    convert
    to convert the pixel rate.
