So is this a McDonald's proprietary font (I recall their slogan is
"I'm lovin' it!") or a third party design. Neither would especially
    surprise me.

Can't help you there: "The requested URL www.oefb.at/NR/rdonlyres/evvxvem2pnfolaglyvsza3l4jseoebeguy54y2nvp3usvsrmvw42luxpodnjo64bq5mqa6euowfolkdt2gxmg5ufnva/mcdonalds.jpg
was not found on this server."

Can you post a more sensible URI?

    It's called LOVIN SANS

I don't think so. The font used in the logo in the OP's first example
goes back far beyond the "lovin' it" campaign. Check the x-height and
the protrusion height of the ascenders and you'll see they are quite
different from those used in the "lovin' it" logo. The font used for
that campaign may well be called Lovin Sans, but their corporate
    identity is different.

So is this a McDonald's proprietary font (I recall their slogan is
"I'm lovin' it!") or a third party design. Neither would especially
    surprise me.

No reason why not. Companies often have fonts drawn or redrawn
specifically for them, so that no-one else can use them to fake up their identity. Seems perfectly reasonable to me.

Well that WAS the point of my original question. Obviously McD's is
wealthy enough to afford to do those things.

My question was primarily if anybody KNEW whether this is the case.

Thanks for the info on the "Pre-Lovin' It" usages.

Very :-) They sell an awful lot of hamburgers...

My question was primarily if anybody KNEW whether this is the case.

Possibly. The usual rule is deductive: if it's not a known font (from
asking lots of font experts) then it must be a special making. Or in the
case of a logo, often a special drawing, not actually a font at all. My
guess is you'd need to ask someone who worked for McD's corporate
branding office, or perhaps email someone at McD's who is their company
    archive person.
