    Hi,
Could anyone help me understand the GFP protocol? I don't seem to find a good explanation on the web. What is the difference between GFP and HDLC? Also, what is the difference between the GFP two modes (GFP-F and GFP-T)?

    Thank you,
    Hadar

    Hello Hadar,

I don't seem to find a good explanation on the web.

GFP is described in ITU-T recommendation G.7041.
You can download it for free:

What is the difference between GFP and HDLC?

GFP is byte-oriented HDLC is bit-oriented.
GFP is used to transport asynchronous signals over a
synchronous network like SDH and OTN.
HDLC is mainly used in asynchronous applications.

Also, what is the difference between the GFP two modes (GFP-F and GFP-T)?

    That is explained in G.7041.
In short: GFP-F encapsulates frames (or packets) while GFP-T
    encapsulates code-words.

    Thank you,

    You're welcome.
    Best regards, Huub.
