There is one thing i don't understand about sdh multiplexing:
why 3xTUG-3 are multiplexed in one VC-4 and not directly in AU-4?
TU-12s are directly multiplexed in TUG-2, same thing for TUG-2s
which are directly multiplexed in TUG-3 and not in VC-3, so why
we can't do the same thing for TUG-3??

Mapping TUG3 directly into AU4 would bypass the VC-4 switch matrix.

I think you forgot VC-3
Mapping TUG3 directly into AU4 would bypass the VC-4 switch matrix.
So theoretically we can do it! but for practical reasons we don't?
Please correct me if I'm wrong, suppose we have 63xE1 tributary card
cross-connected to STM-1 line card, in this case the VC-4 is structred
onto 63 VC-12, so we only need to use the LO switch matrix.
In the second case, suppose we have 2 STM-1 line cards cross-connected
directly, despite the fact that each VC-4 is structred onto 63 VC-12,
we only need to use the HO switch matrix.
