We know that OPU1 is based, for the payload, on STM-16.

In the G.709 (02/2012), table IX.1, we can see that STM-16 is mapped in OPU1 by using AMP or BMP rate adaptation procedures.

I can understand that the AMP procedure is used. The SDH accuracy is not the OPU1 accuracy.

How is it possible to use the BMP procedure, without rate adaptation, if accuracies are different.

Perhaps, I have the solution.

(1) If OPU1 / ODU1 is a tributary of OPU2, OPU3, OPU4, the OPU1 can
be synchronous to STM-16.

In this case, we don't have rate adaptation. The OTN accuracy is
fitted to the SDH accuracy.

(2) If OPU1 / ODU1 is directly mapped in OTU1, the OPU1 is not
synchronous to STM-16, so AMP procedure is used.
