• FileMaker Inc. renamed back to Claris

FileMaker Inc. is changing their name back to Claris because they're
going to re-start doing more than just the FileMaker Pro database
    application.

Apple Subsidiary FileMaker Returns to 1980s Name Claris
    Following Stamplay Acquisition
    -------------------------------------------------------
Apple subsidiary FileMaker today announced it has returned
to its original name Claris from the late 1980s.

Claris was spun off as an Apple subsidiary in 1986 while
John Sculley was Apple CEO. At the time, it was known for
several programs such as MacWrite, MacPaint, MacDraw, and
FileMaker, but the company eventually began to focus
solely on FileMaker, leading it to be renamed FileMaker
    in 1998.

Now, the company plans to expand its portfolio again,
leading it to readopt the Claris name. FileMaker Pro will
    remain one of its offerings.

The rename coincides with FileMaker acquiring Italian
startup Stamplay and renaming it Claris Connect. The
API-based development platform enables users to build
workflows that connect cloud services, including Dropbox,
Slack, Salesforce, and more. In March, it was reported
    that Apple had acquired Stamplay.

    Have a nice day, Harry!

I hope that means we'll see that Swiss Army knife called Claris-Works again. We no longer have a lightweight and fast tool for all jobs, except the ferocious "FileMaker", "Pages", "Numbers" and "Keynote".

    Regards
    Manos

My browser complained about an insecure connection here. The redirect

Still not working - it gives some idea about how professional this new
    restart begins.

So what's the roadmap for newer FMP - other than pay-per-year
    contracting?

Personally, I'm still on FMP 11 since nothing was improved which would
    justify an upgrade for me.

I'd look for an update of MacDraw.

It's surprising that the simplicity of editing, the
copy-paste-usability, the excellent and inutitive user interface never
    got any better since.

No need vor Claris Works - they lost me after readability of the old
file format was lost (again and again?). Libre Office is good enough for
    me.

The FileMaker apps will no doubt continue as they have been.

It's difficult to say what Claris' plans are from just this one new
addition, but maybe they are moving into various developer apps while
leaving the more consumer-based apps like Pages, etc. at Apple. I
wouldn't count on there ever being a new version of ClarisWorks though.

Unfortunately their new logo doesn't include Claris the DogCow. :o( https://techcrunch.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Claris_logo_rgb_blk.jpg

What's that logo supposed to be?

It reminds me of pac mans, eating each other.

What are most logos supposed to be? The vast majority of logos are
basically irrelevant squiggles that some massively over-paid graphic
    design company came up with.
