Hi out there
Excessive use of FileMaker (and other stuff) has resulted in Carpal
Tunnel problems (RSI) and I'm struggling to work with FileMaker, using
my voice. Entering data into fields, and moving between fields seems to
work OK, but other matters (e.g. going to the next record) have been frustrating.
I've tried using scripts, for example saying "Press the key Command
One" to activate a simple script that should go to the next record, but
it's unreliable. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't.
Is there a forum I should join for this sort of question? Somewhere I
can get information? Everybody says the Windows OS works better than
the MacOS for working with Dragon etc. Is this really the case, with FileMaker?
I'm tearing my hair out here! Does anybody have experience of this, or
can offer advice?
Thanks in anticipation

i changed from mouse to pen-tablet because of that years ago. Have no problems with that. Otherwise I have no wisdom to share.

Thanks for your reply, Ursus. Your solution is not what I had in mind,
but perhaps I should experiment. Which tablet do you use?

Using an old Wacom Sapphire. A tablet changes the wrist action and I
have had no trouble with my wrist since. (about 15-20 yrs??)

Thanks for your reply, Erik. Perhaps I should separate text dictation
and computer commands, and not hope one solution will deal with both.
To what extent can you control the Mac from the tablet?

Fully, everything you would be able to do with you normal mouse. The tip
is pressure sensitive and can act as a pencil. OR/AND can act as a
mouseclick (tick-tick), and/or select area (drag the tip)
The sideswitch rocks up and down, both customisable. I use up as double-click, down as context-menu-click.
The top is used mostly in drawing programs etc as a rubber. At one time
I used it as delete, but found the flipping of the pen to be to
cumbersome to my taste and now never use it anymore.
I have found it difficult to use with programs that rely heavily on the
mouse scroll wheel, like the zooming function of google earth. In which
case I either use the keyboard or fall back on the mouse. The Wacom
Sapphire came with a dedicated wireless mouse that you put on top of the tablet to use. Works perfectly if needed.
Finally I know some people can't get used to switching to a tablet. for
me it was easy, within a week I didn't know any better. But my partner
always relies on using a mouse. So if you are at all able to try it, I
would say do so.
