Looking for recommendations for database software.
Relational would be nice, but not mandatory. Simpler, and easier to
learn and use than Access. I've never tried Paradox, part of Corel
Office.
I need more than using a spreadsheet can provide.
Such as what? If we know what you _do_ want (or would like), we'll
probably be able to advise better.
It should be nothing more than simple data tracking, but I don't know
what the future will be. It's possible a lot of text for a single field
in each record, which I find to be a PITA in a spreadsheet field.
(Do you actually need to do _sums_ on the entries anyway?
I shouldn't. At most I expect to need nothing more than how many
records reflect this concern, how many reflect that concern, etc.
A non-relational database would work, just trying to avoid repetitive
input of the same info, such as a person's name.
I got curious and tried making a database in Libre
Office. It immediately complained that it couldn't
access the data source. What? I just started the thing.
where does it think a datasource might be? Then it
told me I couldn't proceed without Java. Nothing's
worth installing Java. I give up. :)
