I can subscribe to Hulu Video at $8.99 month.

They just want me to read articles while they flood my web browser with
dozens of ads and ads that play video so I can't even read the articles.
God forbid if I accidentally click on a advertisement and it installs
malware that steals my banking and credit card information.

    I'd agree. $16 a month sounds high.
I'm in Puget Sound / Seattle area.
I am subscribed to the Seattle Times.
I pay about $60 a year for the printed Seattle Times
on Sundays, and every day the on line full paper.
I like to keep up seeing their liberal take on
the stupid way things are going.
But actually, since the "defund the police"
crazies gained influence, the Seattle Times
    has gone quite moderate.

$16 x 100,000 = the current revenue deficit to break even
    probably.

I get the San Diego Union-Tribune digital for $98 a year. Print
is $1 week for Sundays only, $5 week for every day.

It's worth it for keeping up with the local stuff.
