could have done that while still president

Yes he could have. I don't think anyone predicted the massive sized
kangaroo court that this incident became though.
Jan 6 rioters were being rounded
up and prosecuted even while he was
still president.

As for his former supporters, they are trying to save their own skin

I would do the same if it were me.
One thing I do not like about Trump is that it seems everywhere he
goes he leaves a trail of close friends and confidants laying under
the bus. It is however typical for people at the top of the food
chain. How do you think most of them got there in the first place?
