"This is a Motormouth couple car video discussing the cost to replace the battery in 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5. After finding out that his battery protection cover was scratched, the owner was told the battery needed to
be replace for more than he paid for the car brand new. Over $60,000, so
he decided to make a claim on his insurance and have the car written off. This is a cautionary tale to not only EV owners and potential owners but
also other manufacturrers, that these kinds of casts are out much more
than consumers are expecting to pay. Hyundai Canada was eventually
notified to the customers concerns but only after the car had been
written off by the insurer. Watch this story and decide for yourself."

EV are also very expensive to repair which is why insurance companies are totaling them even for
what would be a minor repair on an ICE vehicle.

Hyundai/Kia cars are mostly crap cars anyway. They are easily stolen (see YouTube).

Garages burning down are due to accidents or crashes? How might that work, "pothole"?

It doesn't matter *how* the car fire starts, "pothole." The simple statistical fact is that the *rate* of car fires from any cause is far lower for EVs than for ICE cars. If you have an ICE car, the chance that it will at some point catch fire is *far* higher than if you had an EV.

I was mistaken. That was from a report on car fires in Sweden. In
the US, the chances of your ICE catching fire is SIXTY times that of
    a BEV.

    In a garage?

"There are 1.4 billion internal combustion engine vehicles worldwide
    today...."

And how many fires? The article doesn't mention fires.

"Some 18 million battery electric vehicles (BEVS) were in use

And how many fires? The article doesn't mention fires.

    https://www.statista.com/statistics/270603/worldwide-number-of-hybrid-and-electric-vehicles-since-2009/

    1,400,000,000/18,000,000 = 77.77777777+

All that does is give you a percentage of total cars that are BEV and
    you did the math backwards.

It gives us a ratio of ICE vehicles to BEV, about 78::1.

    18,000,000 / 1,400,000,000 = 0.0128571428571429 which means that 1.3%
or one seventy eighth of cars in the world are BEVs.

The reciprocal of what I wrote.

Looks like BEVs are twice as likely to burn your garage down than ICE
    vehicles.

Looks like you're lying yet again. These links are about sales
figures. There is nothing about car fires in either article.

Hybrid vehicles had 3474.5 fires per 100,000 sales
Gas vehicles had 1529.9 fires per 100k sales.
BEVs had only 25.1 fires per 100k sales. https://www.nextbigfuture.com/2022/12/gas-vs-electric-accident-and-fire-safety.html

These numbers were calculated from NHTSA reports.

    And American; mine are global.

You're spreading oil company propaganda ...

    <guffaw>

...and not even making up convincing numbers.

How often do ICE vehicles spontaniously combust?

From your source, regarding ICE vehicles--

"Only about 5 percent of car fires result from a collision. .... Less than 2 percent start in the fuel tank or lines. Most of these fires begin with problems
in the engine, drivetrain or wheel areas. They may also be caused by a faulty design or defective parts....."

IOW, while being operated, NOT while safely snug in the garage overnight.

    1,400,000,000/18,000,000 = 77.77777777+

Looks like BEVs are twice as likely to burn your garage down than ICE vehicles.

I would put it higher than that because the fires are NOT similar. An ICE
fire is pretty easily extinguished. An EV fire on the other hand is very
hard to put out. It also burns hotter, faster and with much greater
intensity easily setting secondary fires just from the intensity of the heat from the fire. IOW, it spreads quickly and rapidly given flammables in the area.

    Not so much.

For every EV fire there are 37 ICE fires. Do you park in an attached

So you calculate the ratio of ICE vehicles to EVs, but you have nothing about the rate at which each kind catches fire. Your numbers are worthless, o oozing scarlet red maxipad — exactly as worthless as you.

Looks like BEVs are twice as likely to burn your garage down than ICE
    vehicles.

I would put it higher than that because

Because you're a fucking moron, scooter. oozing scarlet red maxipad did
*not* show that EVs are twice as likely to burn as ICE vehicles.

Sure he did.... unless you lied. according to you for every EV fire there
    are 37 ICE fires.
If the risk were the same.. then for every EV fire we should see 77.7 ICE fires...
but we only see about half that many.

Therefore the rate of EV fires is twice that of ICE fires.

He didn't show *anything* about the relative rate of vehicle fires,
    scooter.

Certainly he did.. He showed the population of ICE cars is 77.7 times that
of EV.. thus given an equal risk the rate of ICE fires should be 77.7 times that of EVs...
However, the rate is only 37 times that of EVs.
Thus an EV is twice as likely to catch on fire over a ICE.

that's 200% greater fire risk for an EV.

Interesting to note that over time, you're still just as ignorant as ever.
