Crime In America: Study Reveals The 10 Most Unsafe Cities In 2022 (It’s
    Not Where You Think)

Crime is surging in the US—and it’s only getting worse. Homicides
increased by 7% in 2021 and gun violence has been on the rise since 2014,
with deadly shootings in large cities up by 80%. MoneyGeek, a personal
finance technology company, recently analyzed crime statistics in nearly
300 cities with populations over 100,000 to rank the most dangerous cities
in the US, as well as the safest cities in America—a useful list for
everyone from travelers to concerned citizens.

MoneyGeek compiled the list of most dangerous cities in America and safest places in the US by using the cost of crime per capita, which was based on standardized crime data from the FBI combined with research on the
economic cost by type of crime. The total societal cost of crime for these cities? An estimated $203 billion in 2020. Read More: To see the most

Report Ranks America’s 15 Safest (And Most Dangerous) Cities For 2023.

The team at MoneyGeek says it did this report on the most dangerous cities
in the US because it is interested in all aspects of Americans’ financial lives. “[Safety] ties into both understanding home buying as well as
insurance. Crime and economic opportunity are also correlated. Where we
choose to live has impacts on our wallets, jobs and opportunities,” says
Doug Milnes, MoneyGeek’s chief of data analytics. “Travelers can use this report to understand the relative safety of these cities across the
country that they may be visiting. For some that may mean avoiding a less
safe destination all together and for others that may mean making
different itineraries or taking different precautions in a given city.”

This is the second year that the team at MoneyGeek has run this analysis
of the most dangerous cities in America and safest places in the US, and
they found that crime increased in cities across America from 2019 to 2020
(the latest full year that data was available). “Overall we saw a 15%
increase in the cost of crime and the median increase was 11%,” says
    Milnes.

Determining The Most Dangerous Cities in America

There were several US cities that had increases in crime that were
significant. “It’s worth noting popular tourist destinations like Seattle,
New Orleans and Chicago were amongst cities that saw increases in the cost
of crime,” says Milnes. “In Chicago the cost of crime increased by 29%, in
NOLA the increase was 40% and in Seattle it was 42%. These percentage
increases can hide some numbers. NOLA’s increase in the cost of crime was
on top of an already high cost of crime. We saw 70% of cities in America reported some increase in the cost of crime.”

So why should people care about the cost of crime? Two reasons, says
MoneyGeek. “The cost of crime we’ve calculated provides weights that can
help us understand relative differences in crime rates that captures the
impact of the crimes reported,” says Milnes. “Second, the cost of crime estimates used in our rankings reflect all of the costs of crime in a community: The impact to the victim and the community and remind us all
that crime has an impact on our communities. I’d like to believe that the
cost of crime reminds us how communities that struggle with crime pay for
it in a variety of ways.” St. Louis most dangerous city in America

St. Louis was named the most dangerous city in America.getty

In its analysis, MoneyGeek ranked 297 cities with populations over 100,000 people from most to least safe. Coming in at the bottom of the list was
St. Louis, Missouri, which was named the most dangerous city in America.
Milnes says it’s hard to know why St. Louis is so dangerous, but one
factor might be the fact that it’s struggling economically. “The
population has decreased over time rather than increased like the
population of America and the GDP of the St. Louis metro area has grown
slower than the overall country since 2001,” says Milnes.

So should you avoid St. Louis in your travels? “As a traveler, it comes
down to your tolerance for risk and the activities you’re planning on
doing,” says Milnes. “There are likely areas within St. Louis that are
worth avoiding for safety reasons, but that doesn’t mean that one can't be
    safe there.”

All but two of these are in scarlet red shithole states, and the two that aren't
    are in purple states.

The red shithole state murder problem is undeniable. It's the red shithole state governments that set the gun policies. And the red shithole state rural (red shithole) areas have gun murder rates *exceeding* their blue cities.

Red shithole state = high gun murder rates...*because* of the red shithole state
    Republiscum/QAnon control. This is proved.
