These are nice, and the NUCs on the site are too.

As most anybody nowadays will throw away their equipment as
soon as a trace of dust is visible on it, ebay is a good source for components, if you avoid to fall prey to a junk-seller. Much money
to be saved thus, and still usable parts rescued from the dump.

    Regards,
    H.

I have a friend who is an old boss of mine and he would spend a
quarter million dollars on ebay and get about 3 million dolars worth
of test equipment. Then he would build a lab, develop a product,
then sell the business and do it all over again. Did it about three
times I know of alone. He also buys houses and tears it down except
for one wall, then builds a mansion around it. He bought a 2600 sq
ft house in Virginia with about an acre and a half. He brought in
600 loads of fill for the back yard to make it slope easily down to
the creek. He put in a well and a buried propane vessel. He turned
the house into a 7500 sq ft mansion with Cherry floors and stairs and
Cherry everything and Chinese marble in all the wet spaces... 5
baths all with their own jucuzzi and shower and a sixth downstairs
where his HUGE office and conference room and Half million dollar RF
    lab are (were) at.

It is for sale at 2.3 M. All the other houses in the area are in
the 2600 sq ft range. It dwarfs them. There are truly rich guy
houses just down the street though. Way out of our league. So funny
how so many of them make their houses look like castles with parapets
    and such.

It costs him $40k a year just to keep it.

Buy the components and build your own PC. Bill will never know
    :-).

(I haven't read the triple-posted rant of the OP; looked like
    spam.)

Hereabouts there are companies who sell PCs with Linux
pre-installed, and other companies that sell "empty" notebooks
(without OS) at least for students, and these PCs are also
cheaper without the MS license. Assembling one is, of course,
another option since decades where all components in the PC
market are widely standardized. Occasionally there's a chance
that you can inherit an older Windows PC from your company that
fits well for a resource-efficient Linux installation. (Been
there just recently.) These days I plan to de-Apple a macbook
that hasn't been updated (for "political" reasons) since many
years and refuses to continue running with the old MacOS-X. Who
cares what MS does when there's still enough options. (The
producers of drivers and applications is the bigger problem.)

    Lots of choices here:

Not to mention that nearly all of them will boot linux on a thumb
    drive. Several choices.

I have SSDs loaded with linux and stuck into a USB external bay,it
becomes a main OS storage spot. I have several with different
releases on them. My Cubox had a weird bootloader. It ran several
    different distros from Ubu to those A/V multimedia jobs.2" x 2" x 2".
