• Problem with thunderbird calendar and Google calendar

From Paulo da Silva@21:1/5 to All on Tue Oct 26 23:23:05 2021
    Hi!

Does anyone here use the Google calendar with thunderbird?

Since yesterday it stopped working (kubuntu 20.04).
The first time this occurred, it worked at the second attempt. Later
    I never got it again!

The distro version is somewhat old, but it always worked (78.13.0) and
    the Google provider extension 78.0.2.

I tried a recent version from snap but the same problem!

    Error after password and "allow":

    (Translation from Google translator)
    authorization error
    Error 403: rate_limit_exceeded

This app has reached the login speed limit for now.

Google limits how quickly an app can get new ones
users. You can try logging in later or ask the
    programmer (provider-for-google-calendar@googlegroups.com) to
increase the login speed limit of this app.

If you are the developer of this app, you can request an increase in the
    login speed.

    Thanks for any comments/help.
    Paulo

You are logging in too frequently, tripping a frequency limiter on the server. Set the dialog in Lightning to "Manual", and try not to do too many "Manual" updates
in quick succession. If you still want the automatic feature, the Superuser article describes the process of modifying the menu. The bug filed at Mozilla, suggests the menu values are not appropriate for the Google server and its settings.

    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1364217

    https://superuser.com/questions/591086/increase-calendar-refresh-interval-beyond-defaults-in-thunderbird-lightning

Lots of servers and protocols have rate limiters or frequency limiters.

The English word for exceeding a rate limiter, is "hammering".
If someone said "he was hammering my server", that's what they mean,
attempts to "get too much service" at the expense of the other users.

It's up to the user to be aware of this. For example, on USENET news client software, some of the older softwares are "too aggressive" and then the user complains to the server administrator "that he has been booted". Well, the client login frequency is too high. Some news servers only allow 1200 to
    1800 connections per day.

It's too bad that the calendar protocol itself, does not transport the server "recommended
value" to the client, so the menu can automatically reflect the proper value. This editing of files is just silly. But it's only the year 2021, and
there is time yet. Calendar software has been around for at least 30 years.

This is strange as this has been working since very long time ago.
In fact, they were (by default) configured for 60m. Even so, I used to
sync them every time I change something to make them in sync with my mobile. Ok, now I changed to 'manual'. Still the same error! Do I need to wait
some time - one day, for example?

    Regards.

I use an addon called G-Hub Lite in Thunderbird that I have set up with
Google Calendar and Google Contacts in separate tabs. Works good. Maybe
    worth a try?

It should not take longer than a day.

Making a client wait 24 hours is considered "punishment" :-)

Normally, denying service until the delay period is
    met, should be enough.

As long as you've set it to "Manual", this will allow
you to have greater control over your testing. And determine
if hammering is the issue. Or, if the service is simply
down and not available at the moment.

OK! Today it's working again :-)
