I am running both Mint and Ubuntu and all is working quite well except

It's is not a problem with the ports and if I use a USB stick or
external hard drive...no problems. It's with my Android only.

The copy process is exceedingly slow and always fails if I try to copy
a lot of data at once.

On my Win10 and Win11 installations it's a smooth process.

    Thanks for the replies.

I did a bit of experimenting and tried putting one of my HD's on other hardware. Though I had the same problem with another mobo of the same
vintage viz: oldĀ  from the days before UEFI

It seems to work fine with on a newer mobo.

Since I like to to multiple backups on several machines and also an
external drive..for the time being I'll simply have to do my backup
    first on the windows machine.

Transfer to external drive,,,then from there to my Linux machine.

Of note was that on the older mobos I had added a USB3 card. Since the connection is only USB2, I tried the USB 2 ports and now the file
    transfer is working well.
