Sgt. Hill's 6th-floor tale of the shells, part 2: All Quiet on the 6th floor
DPD Detectives L.D. Montgomery and Marvin Johnson arrive at the depository "about 12:50" and go "immediately to the 6th floor", where Capt. Fritz puts them in "charge of the scene where the assassin had done the shooting, to assist the Crime Lab". (
Report on Officer's Duties in Regards to the President's Murder/CE 2003) Montgomery and Johnson assist the lab's Det. Studebaker in processing the "long brown paper sack" and the Dr. Pepper bottle. Neither Montgomery nor Johnson mentions shells in the "
nest", although Johnson refers, at one point, to the "window that the shot was fired from..." (Report on Officer's Duties.../CE 2003 p223) Neither detective was in Dealey at 12:30, hence they had no idea coming in how many shots had been fired. It was
actually, of course, more than a "shot"--but there were apparently no clues--that is to say, no shells--in the "nest" to tell Johnson how many shots had been fired. Why do the two detectives still seem to be in the dark re the shells found on the 6th
floor?
Mudville perplexed...
