The bad news:
Microsoft is forcing more and more open source Linux software to
rely and run on Microsoft Windows only, like hardware based video
decoding or encoding which is not legal on non Microsoft
operating systems.
Embrace, extend, and extinguish" (EEE),[1] also known as "embrace,
extend, and exterminate",[2] is a phrase that the U.S. Department
of Justice found[3] that was used internally by Microsoft[4] to
describe its strategy for entering product categories involving
widely used standards, extending those standards with proprietary
capabilities, and then using those differences in order to
strongly disadvantage its competitors.
Please note that endless lists of killed programmers exist! It was
a wise move by Microsoft to for example let kill Ian Murdock the
creator of Debian Linux!
