• .htm files with lengths of zero.

I find in my downloads directory several .htm files with lengths of
zero. The first part of the file name is never recognizable to me,
just seemingly random letters and numbers.

What does this mean? How do these files get in there?

Normally caused by the user of the device when saving a web page and >incorrectly choosing the wrong file type available in the dialog box
when using the Save As or Save command.
    - when the file type is not correctly chosen, zero byte files are
    created.

Not that this is so bad or so important, but I'll pay more attention in
the future. I guess to see how I made the mistake in the past.

I.e. How did they get there? Most likely something done at your end
instead of an application that was in use.

    Okay. Thanks.

What to do with the zero byte(useless files)?
    Delete them

    Yes, Sir.
