Sound stopped working on laptop. Nothing coming out of the USB speakers.
Took 30 minutes to find the problem. I had plugged phone into laptop to
charge it, and plugged earbuds into desktop to charge them. Earbuds
must have paired with the phone, because in the Volume Mixer window, it
gave the code letters for the earbuds (instead of Logitech Z205!)

So even though the earbuds supposedly don't work when they are charging,
they had paired with the phone, which was only meant to charge.

Or did the earbuds pair with the laptop? Yes, I think that's it. I
don't think I ever told it to.

You forgot to turn off Bluetooth in your phone, did you??

    Yes, I did. ;-)

BTW, iOS updates always turn ON Bluetooth without your consent! And it's
easy to accidentally turn ON Bluetooth in Android. :)

My phone is something else again. I think I posted one question about
this a few days ago, but I've learned more.

I have a Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro. (4 last names, must come from a rich
    family)

Even if I put it on Vibrate or DoNotDisturb or both, the phone will
still ring and the flashlight flash. I learned to turn the ringer
down to zero and if I put the phone in my pocket with black pants, the
    light doesn't shine through.
