    Yes.

I've upgraded both my PCs with only fairly minor problems so far.

Could you elaborate just a little. No TL;DR stuff.

    Yes.

I've upgraded both my PCs with only fairly minor problems so far.

Could you elaborate just a little.  No TL;DR stuff.

    I upgraded them from W11 23H2 to W11 24H2 by downloading the W11 24H2
ISO and copying it to the PC to be upgraded where I mounted so it gets a
    drive letter.
I used program I always install to mount it but I see no reason why you
should use Windows 11's built in ISO mounter.

Then I ran the setup.exe from the mounted ISO.
There is an autorun.inf file on the ISO so that Opening the drive by
double clicking it in explorer runs setup.exe so you can just do that.

Then I just followed the instructions.

What I called minor problems were:

My laptop lost its wallpaper settings, got changed to black wallpaper,
but I easily set it back to my usual slideshow of a selection of my
photos in a folder. It also lost the Wi-Fi passphrase needed to
autoconnect to my Wi-Fi, but re-entering it soon fixed that.

My desktop PC has much more software installed on it including some
quite unusual things. I thought there might be more problems with it but
no. Wallpaper setting wasn't lost and I don't use Wi-Fi on it.
I did do one extra reboot just in case but then everything just worked,
or worked as well as it did before.

    Amazing.

I recommend a backup, because it would appear the installer sequence is different.
At least, be prepared for a shock. The suggestion here, is the media
might no longer be a hybrid, but is UEFI-only instead. I haven't been working with the Insider for a while, because it was frozen at 26100 or whatever the release was for a while, so there was nothing going on in there.

    https://www.elevenforum.com/t/w11-24h2-and-old-installation-setup.25706/

"there is an option "Previous version of Setup" (to have the old interface)"

If your machine has already had the Black Lotus patches applied (and associated changes to the UEFI contents in the BIOS flash or whatever, revocation), then it is possible your options for mixing and matching pieces of ISO might be better.

So maybe I should not be so blasé about the whole thing. Makes sense when Intel was pushing for motherboards to lose CSM capability.

This means we could have a whole new set of if-then-else, depending on
what machine limitations you've got for the install.

This almost smells like the Microsoft definition of "progress",
which is to "flummox the user, when possible and often".

Rufus has also had to include at least one change. There is something he
has put into a short script which sets a handful of registry entries.

When your Win10 expires, and you have that "won't they think about Windows Defender"
look on your face, your keeping up with the latest news will come in handy.

You at least want to keep up with Windows 11 well enough, to know it's a dead end.

There is a lot going on in the industry, and no, I'm not talking about the distractions of AI which are acting as a smoke screen. There seems to be
a push, to not allowing desktops to become too capable (Intel removes Hyperthreading,
some laptop CPUs have limited RAM located inside the CPU package).
The trick will be, to ship inferior machines with limitations, and make
    the users like it.

The answer to power consumption in the server industry, is to... buy nuclear reactors.
I can remember a time, when a 500 watt chip was unthinkable (hard to cool), but here we are. It was not a problem for IBM at the time, which did an MCM
with 1000W consumption and two hose barbs for water cooling. It seems we've caught
up to IBM, but with smaller packages (with hose barbs on them).

Enjoy your current machine then (with both UEFI and CSM, and RAM slots).

Usenet manners seem to be a thing of the past. We're lucky that
the OP didn't crosspost it to alt.guns.maga or alt.trans.trauma.

There are also a surprising number of people who take Microsoft
marketing as marching orders. I'm guessing that Zoopla has never
even reflected on whether to move to Win11. Microsoft gave the
order and it's easier to follow that than to think. I see that on Reddit.
Over and over people post in a panic: "My computer is almost
new. What happens when Microsoft stops supporting it?!" They
think it's going to turn into a malware infection and they'll be forced
to buy a new one or switch to Win11.

The Vice President of Slowness has this to say:

"Microsoft is slowly rolling out 24H2 to existing devices. “We are taking a phased
approach with the 2024 Update rollout, based on when data shows your device is ready
and you will have a great experience,” explains John Cable, vice president of
program management for Windows servicing and delivery. “The first phase will start
over the coming weeks. We will begin with eligible devices running Windows 11,
version 22H2 and 23H22 for those who have previously opted in <===
to be amongst the first to experience new enhancements.”

previously opted in == "Get the Latest Updates as soon as they are available"

Which of course, will install the Preview security update, instead of
    doing what you want.

Wait until at least the end of tomorrow (Patch Tuesday Oct8,2024), before clicking
that toggle in Windows Update. Allow the October patches to install first.

Then, it may be offered to you. But if you have any "blockers" on the PC,
such as a copy of the PC game "Asphalt", you will not be offered the upgrade immediately.

It might even need the servicing stack update from October Cumulative,
    to get the ball rolling.

The process is intended to be mysterious.

You need to enable "Get the latest updates as soon as they're

    Tnx for the info!

Just don't click that too soon.

Wait for Patch Tuesday packages to complete
installation, before using the button and seeing
if your Upgrade is queued. It could be a few hours
yet, before it is time to try it.

Since it has been about a week and I haven't heard any screams I'll
probably go ahead and update since I got my notification today.

Do a backup and push the button.

Make sure you have enough disk space.
