Has windows changed the way it names duplicate files?

I have one file in my downloads directory called
    networx_setup.exe, from 2021

Later I downloaded again and got
networx_setup (1).exe as well as versions 2-6 (Four in one 30-minute
period. I can't remember why I did that.)

Today I wanted a recent version and I got
    networx_setup(1).exe , no space after the p.

Google has articles about windows *suggesting* names for duplicate files
but it's never in 30 years asked me which one I want.
And another article mentions Powershell. I have that installed (and
there are 3277 files with powershell in their names!!!) but I'm sure I
didn't do anything with it related to this. Does it do this on its own?

BTW, Networx is free for 30 days, but some features keep working,
apparently for 3 years or more. I don't remember what is not working
except that it only opens up little windows now, and I suppose it once
had a big window. BTW2, the little windows are speed meter, usage
statistics trace route, pint, netstat, quota, settings. Maybe the whole
thing does work, but you can tell if there is more during the first 30
    days. It's only $15 but I haven't had a need for it.

That's probably an issue of the (web) *browser*, not Windows itself.

Did you use the exact same browser in both situations?

If you make a copy with (Windows) File Explorer - i.e. not with a
browser -, the copy *will have a space before the left parenthesis of
    the sequence number.

If the Usage Report still has a working 'Applications' tab, I may want
to try a newer/current version. (I still have the last free version
    (5.5.5) which works fine.)

As I remember it, it's always been file(1).ext

And it took me a while because I expected this one to be numbered 7 and

    Aha.

I almost surely used Firefox both times -- I know I did today -- but
they are always updating that. I will ask on the firefox ng. In fact I
    will include them on this.

If you make a copy with (Windows) File Explorer - i.e. not with a

What do you think would happen if I had networx_setup(1).exe and I used
windows file explorer to move it to another directory. It woudn't
change the name to networx_setup (1).exe, would it? Because I could conceivably have moved it with file explorer**.

**Though I definitely don't think so.

I don't see that. This is version 7.2. Made by SoftPerfect, so it
    should be perfect.

If you *move* a file, the name stays the same. If you *copy* and the
name already exists, you get a copy with a sequence number.

Out of interest, I did some tests:

    1. Target folder contains file networx_setup.exe (no sequence number).
If I again copy file networx_setup.exe from some folder to the same
target folder and choose to keep both copies, the new one will be
    named 'networx_setup (1).exe', i.e. with a sequence number and a
    space.

    2. Target folder contains your networx_setup(1).exe file, i.e. with a
sequence number, but without a space.
If I again copy file networx_setup(1).exe from some folder to the same
target folder and choose to keep both copies, the new one will be
named 'networx_setup(2).exe', i.e. new sequence number, but no space.

So it seems that if there was no sequence number in the original name,
the second copy gets a sequence number (1) with a space in front.

If there already was a sequence number in the original name, the new
copy gets the next sequence number, but doesn't get a space if there
wasn't one in the original name.

The original question is the reason I added Firefox to the distribution
list. Apparently it's not windows that does this and the accuatory
finger was pointed to the browser. Has Firefox hanged its rules in the
last 4 years. See the questions that follow:

So Firefox people, do you think Firefox could have changed how it named duplicate files?
