False alarm, an upgrade fixed it.
Fyi...If you want some additional information on the Surface battery >status..consider NirSoft's BatteryInfoView. Does not require
installation of additional dll files.
Runs fine on my Surface and Laptops in Win10 and Win11.

Thanks, I downloaded it. The battery is 7 years old.
You're welcome.
From a historical perspective across a variety of Surface models dating
back quite a few years.
- There have been a sprinkling of reports and not unique to a given
Surface on battery life/premature decay.
Like your 7yr Surface, one of ours(mine) is a Surface 3, now ~9 yrs old.
- BatteryInfoView indicates current capacity at 76%. Now, at full
charge with typical use(primarily Internet - Edge/Chrome, Office 2019
H/B - mostly Outlook for email, iTunes and periodic updating) the
battery still provides about 3.0-3.5 hours of use before it reaches the
low level charge setting.

I upgrade it over WiFi since I use it at home (no Internet) and all
else at work.

Wi-Fi is connecting to the net.
How else do you think it is getting its info?
I have a SurfacePro4 computer which now operates only when plugged
into external power. And not otherwise.
How can I test if it is a failed battery or something else?
