• [W11 23H2 22631.3737] save documents on multiple desktops

From Ammammata@21:1/5 to All on Wed Jun 12 11:06:54 2024
    [W11 23H2 22631.3737]

the main desktop stays just in front of me, I keep program icons on it

the secondary is on my left side, I keep temporary docs before I move
    them to proper documents folders

each time I save something on the desktop, it is placed on the main one
    :(

is there any parameter to set, to save new icons on the secondary
    monitor by default?

Probably not a drag-n-drop of a file from File Explorer onto the second desktop, so it's some other method. Also, "main" and "secondary"
desktops could refer to separate monitors, or to virtual desktops, or
some other setup. The devil is in the details.

Stardock's Fences can define one "fence" to receive new saves and downloads

Fences is bundled in with their Object Desktop suite. I don't see
Object Desktop has a free version. Is Fences free?

    https://www.stardock.com/products/fences/

Says "Try Free" which is *not* the same as free. Looks like it is
$10/yr subscriptionware, or $30 lifetime license (doesn't say if there
is a host count limit per license). At $30, might as well as go with
Object Desktop at $40/yr, but that is subscriptionware (didn't see a
higher priced option for a perpetual license).

I've also seen users complain that Fences is okay with 3 or 4 fences
defined, but performance is poor with 20+ fences.

    I remember Nimi Places (http://mynimi.net/Projects/Nimi-Places/) was a
free alternative to Stardock Fences, but never used it to know if it had
the same feature of capturing "save somethings" into a specific
container. It might've been discontinued back in 2020 (last update was 2020-01-26).

How about creating a Save folder to where you choose to save new files
or icons you create. In the browser dialog for a save location, pick
the Save folder. Then have a shortcut to that folder in the 2nd
monitor, or whatever is the "secondary" display.

My fences is not subscription (Win7 and now Win10 Pro) with current 17
fences on two monitors no problems. I see it is now subscription.

Free is to us a "Move Command" in a Shortcut with a Shortcut Key.
