Why are more than half of YouTube videos shown in mirror image?

What "Apple Format" is this :-/

Apple has used metadata in media content, to perform
    rotations.

Didn't DIVX do that at one time ? The CODEC on Windows may
have reversed something. I don't think DIVX is used on Youtube though.
It's just an example of "broken-ness".

Some commercial video players, they have a "tech popup" that shows
the details of the method being used for the video. But maybe that
was Adobe Flash that did that.

I have never seen that happen.
I tend to watch "how to" and "how things work" videos though.

Can you send us a URL to a YT vid that is reversed?

I notice it occasionally. For example, I was watching a woodworking video and the guy was using the same table saw that I have, only his was 'backwards', as if I was watching via a mirror. For me, the reversed video is more like 1-2%, rather than "way more than half", but it's going to depend on what a person watches.

I haven't seen any that were reversed. The annoying thing I have seen is
phone videos (taller than wide) where the borders are BLURRED copies of
    the video.

I've often wondered about that. Is it an iPhone thing?

I doubt that. They do it on the BBC website, too. Not all of their
    reporters can have iPhones.

It's something I have noticed too, and sometimes wondered about. Like

    of the road?"

Not all their video has those margins either! It seems to me that it's on crowd-sourced footage that you sometimes see this. It's really annoying, especially when you're trying to watch it on a mobile device and can't fill the screen with the sharp section.

I see that when a video was shot on a mobile, but later prepared to be
    aired on TV.

    Two possible reasons:

    1) They think they can avoid a possible copyright violation

    2) They don't know how to flip the video.

I would not know if Chinese was reversed or not.

I'm sure it plays just fine for everyone, but videos that are partially or fully
reversed (mirror imaged) will play that way (mirrored) for everyone. It's not something that the video player or the platform can fix on the fly. When it's baked into the video, it's there for everyone.

For the most part, we people who view videos simply have no frame of reference and therefore have no idea if it's reversed or not, but there are certain things
that stick out like a sore thumb, such as the reversed/mirrored text in the video above or the mirrored table saw that I mentioned in a previous post in this thread.

Never seen that on youtube, but pretty much very facebook "reel" I see
is like that. I've always assumed it's copyright related.
