• Slow system restore -- possible solution

From Stan Brown@21:1/5 to All on Mon Jun 10 18:06:47 2024
After I installed Acronis True Image 2011 to retrieve a file in an
old backup(*), I tried to uninstall it but the uninstaller hung. Next
I tried System Restore, but it stuck for more than an hour in
"Preparing to restore your system". With some trepidation I held the
power button till the system powered down, then booted. Everything
seemed okay, but I still wanted to remove Acronis, so I ...

    1. hit Windows+I to open settings, typed "safe mode" (without quotes)
in the box, and selected "Change advanced startup options".

    2. under Recovery » Advanced startup clicked Restart now.

    3. after the restart, carried on selecting Advanced at each stage
until one of the options was System Restore. Clicked it.

    4. System Restore prompted me to select a restore point, then showed
"restoring files" and 2 or 3 minutes later I saw a success message.
Rebooted normally wand Acronis was gone.

So when you want to do a restore point, it may be much faster to go
through Advanced Options and use that form of System Restore.

(*) I've been using Macrium Reflect (paid version) for a couple of
years now, but it can't read Acronis .tib files.
