All Windows PCs will be like this soon. It's being rolled out in
    stages.

We are in a post-modern era where dates are less and less mportant.
    You've heard of post-racial society, neo-conservatives, French-revial,
and neo-colongial? All these are subsets of post-modern and we're at
the next stage of this where dates are being abolished. On what was
once July 1st, a new "clock" will be installed on PC's worldwide which
will list the number of days since the invention of Windows.

It sounds rought but we'll get used to it.

The only time I've ever seen the date is when hovering the mouse over the time on

I'm at W10 Pro 19045.4291 and I still have BOTH the date (5/12/2024) and
time (5:10 PM) simultaneously on the taskbar (taskbar at normal height). Hovering adds the week day (Sunday) and date with the month in written
form (Sunday, May 12, 2024). Oh oh, I see the laptop's updating right
    now... 8-O

After the update I'm now at 19045.4355, same as the OP. And I still show
BOTH the date and time on the taskbar as before.

I just got this new laptop a few days ago so was unfamiliar with the
settings. One of the main reasons I got it was it came with W10 Pro. But
it's been a few years since I messed with (and missed) W10.

Anyway, it turns out that in settings/taskbar there is a switch that
says "Use small taskbar buttons". When I switch it on the taskbar halves
in size and the date disappears showing only the time.

So John is right. The larger taskbar shows both date and time and the
smaller time only. Perhaps this laptop having a 10" screen was why it's
set at the double taskbar in settings, since the smaller taskbar is
    pretty much unusable on it.

So to the OP all I can suggest is to check the settings/taskbar setting
for the taskbar size switch. I know you said you tried it but...

Yes, I see that when hovering as well. And I also see the date when

Yes, I have both win10Home and Pro and both show the time, the day of

    That might be it.

And why did the date suddenly disappear?

I still think it's the new MS post-modern date policy. Fortunately I
    sill have my watch.

Since a recent Windows 10 update I appear to have lost the date in
the clock in the taskbar. I've had the date + time for years...

I've done the usual things; changed the taskbar's height, locked /
unlocked the taskbar, disabled / enabled use small task bar
buttons, double checked the regional settings, but I still only get
    the time.
Anyone seen this or can suggest what the problem is?

    Windows 10 Pro, 22H2, 19045.4355

The only time I've ever seen the date is when hovering the mouse over the time on
the taskbar or setting the taskbar to double height. Normally you just see the
24-hour time by default as you did with Windows 7.

Yes, I see that when hovering as well. And I also see the date when increasing the height of the taskbar. And only the time when I select the small task bar button.

I've just found another laptop, Windows 10 Pro, 22H2, 19045.4355 with both the time and date in the task bar. So having date and time must be a feature of Windows 10. Is there a relevant setting somewhere? Or perhaps there is some form of conflict
with another application in my initial computer? And why did the date suddenly disappear?

It's the fourth one down, on that screen.

Yes, that was the first thing I did. Still no date.

So tell me, in your opinion, is the clock time string
perfectly centered in the Taskbar colored area ?

Or is the clock a bit too high or a bit too low, indicating
the date field got "masked off" somehow ?

You notice how when you fiddle with that particular control, that the
    output is pixel-perfect centered.

When Microsoft did the half-height taskbar (no longer supported),
the materials in the Task Bar were not properly centered or
scaled all that well. It was a bodge job, an accident that it
worked at all. I was using the half-height taskbar, because

No, it seems very well aligned. In fact when hovering over the time and
then all the items to the left in that group on the left (task bar is at
the bottom) you can see they're all totally aligned, so I don't think
the date is in there anywhere.

I think you mentioned this already, you may have stretched
your Taskbar to double height and noted the two line display
came back. Someone suggested in a thread I was reading,
that the rendering could take DPI into account (the screen
scale setting), and if that was off enough, the 7 point font
they were using would no longer fit. And then it switches
    to the one-line display.

One of my presumptions, was that for some reason, Microsoft wanted
to encourage higher resolution screens. That means selecting a small
screen device, is less likely to be satisfying. Right now, I would
guess Win10 would look better on a given screen, than Win11. And
when Win12 comes out, who knows what horrors await for rendering.

On some screens, you may see as many as three different rendering
methods at once on the screen. ClearType, Some GrayScale Thing,
and there are even some interfaces using fixed fonts from 1980.
It makes for a jarring experience when you see this. They cannot
go backwards -- they can only "go forward", whatever that means.

The idea is, we're supposed to buy 4K screens, just to have
    increased pixel density.

I was surprised that when I went looking for a cheap 10" Windows laptop
they were all low resolution. This one is 1280 x 800 (HD). Course I just searched on Amazon so my selection was perhaps limited.

I say surprised because my very cheap ($94US) 10" Amazon Fire tablet is
1920 x 1200 (FHD). The rest of my small screen Android/Chrome toys are
    also FHD.

Right now, I would guess Win10 would look better on a given screen,
than Win11. And when Win12 comes out, who knows what horrors await

I picked this LT mainly because it came with W10 Pro. I really never did
like using W11 but that is of course a YMMV thing.

For me it depends on the screen size. My biggest screen size is a 13" Chromebook. So even 2K might be much. FHD is about right since it looks
great (IMO) and it's a bit easier on the speed and battery in portable
devices. So if I have a choice with my smaller screens I'll likely stick
to FHD and avoid 4K. Hope I have a choice next time...

I'm at W10 Pro 19045.4291 and I still have BOTH the date
    (5/12/2024) and
time (5:10 PM) simultaneously on the taskbar (taskbar at normal
    height).
Hovering adds the week day (Sunday) and date with the month in
    written
form (Sunday, May 12, 2024). Oh oh, I see the laptop's updating right >>>>> now...  8-O

After the update I'm now at 19045.4355, same as the OP. And I still
show BOTH the date and time on the taskbar as before.

I just got this new laptop a few days ago so was unfamiliar with
the settings. One of the main reasons I got it was it came with W10
Pro. But it's been a few years since I messed with (and missed) W10.

Anyway, it turns out that in settings/taskbar there is a switch
that says "Use small taskbar buttons". When I switch it on the
taskbar halves in size and the date disappears showing only the time.

So John is right. The larger taskbar shows both date and time and
the smaller time only. Perhaps this laptop having a 10" screen was
why it's set at the double taskbar in settings, since the smaller
taskbar is pretty much unusable on it.

So to the OP all I can suggest is to check the settings/taskbar
setting for the taskbar size switch. I know you said you tried it
    but...

I've rebooted, double checked the taskbar size - still can't get the
    date back!!

I use Windows 11 but for Windows 10 try this article:

    <https://softkeys.uk/blogs/blog/how-to-display-date-and-time-on-taskbar-windows-10>

Reap the steps line by line and do it on your machine so that it works.

I don't think that article is relevant to my version of Windows 10.
I've no "Show Clock" toggle and there's no "Date & Time" section in
    the taskbar settings options

Have you got any 3rd party extensions installed? It looks like these 3rd
party extensions or add-ons might be blocking the display. Either
disable it/them or try creating a new user windows account to see if it
is a system defects or user account corruption. If it is a system then
you must have some 3rd party extensions because windows 10 has not
changed for sometime. It makes no difference whether you are on 20"
screen or 27" screen. Windows will scale accordingly.

You can get 22", 24" or 27" external Monitor that can be hooked to your
10" laptop if it has the necessary ports, e.g. VGA or HDMI or display
port. You don't have to put up with poor resolutions. It can be harmful

I could but I never have. I prefer the small screen for my online use
which is mostly recreational and done while reclined in my big easy
chair (like now). Course my small screen tablets/Chromebooks appear
quite large to me at reading glasses range.

This LT does have a mini-HDMI port but a large monitor probably wouldn't
fit very well on this recliner.

I don't. My other Android tablet toys and Chromebooks that I use are
    over 220 PPI.

Looking at any screen for an excessive amount of time can be bad for the
    eyes.

Not if I won't use it. Translation: As always YMMV...

The only time I've ever seen the date is when hovering the mouse >>>>>>> over
    the time on
the taskbar or setting the taskbar to double height. Normally you >>>>>>> just
    see the
24-hour time by default as you did with Windows 7.

Oh oh, I see the laptop's updating right >>>>>> now...

    <https://softkeys.uk/blogs/blog/how-to-display-date-and-time-on-taskbar-windows-10>

Reap the steps line by line and do it on your machine so that it works.

I don't think that article is relevant to my version of Windows 10.
I've no "Show Clock" toggle and there's no "Date & Time" section in
    the taskbar settings options

Have you got any 3rd party extensions installed? It looks like these 3rd party extensions or add-ons might be blocking the display. Either
disable it/them or try creating a new user windows account to see if it
is a system defects or user account corruption. If it is a system then
you must have some 3rd party extensions because windows 10 has not
changed for sometime. It makes no difference whether you are on 20"
screen or 27" screen. Windows will scale accordingly.

I use T-Clock. You can make the time/date anything you want and the font as large as you want.

Yes, I used that for years - but since Window 10 every few days I kept
getting an error about MSVCR100.dll missing which I was never able to
    resolve because it wasn't missing...
