• Problem with Adobe Digital Editions, and solved.

    From Carlos E.R.@21:1/5 to All on Wed May 8 20:59:39 2024
    Hi,

    I have to use ADE (Adobe Digital Editions) with some of the books I
    purchase. I have not used the tool in a long time, but I needed to use
    it yesterday.

    I have a virtual machine under vmware player where I have used it in the
    past, so it has the tool configured. The tool said it wanted to update
    itself, so now it is version 4.5.12.112.

    It is incapable of authorizing my ebook readers, but it succeeds
    deauthorizing. I can not read anything. It says (translated, the
    messages are in Spanish):

    Error in the activation server
    code: E_ACT_NOT_READY

    Digital editions has found an error in the activation server.

    To retry, click on the retry button

    I waited 12 hours, same thing.

    So I booted an old and slow laptop that can double boot to Windows 10,
    and without updating the tool (version 4.5.8.193423), I could
    reauthorize my old ebook reader, authorize the new one, copy a book to
    the new one, and read it, both in the computer and the reader.

    In both machines, I run as a plain user, not admin.

    I located a help article: <https://community.adobe.com/t5/digital-editions-discussions/how-to-fix-error-found-e-act-not-ready-how-to-fix-error-found-e-act-not-ready-how-to-fix-error-found/td-p/6997975>

    Says to delete auth of the computer, then activate it back. It says that
    it can not delete the auth, try later.

    Someone said use this procedure instead:

    * Close all applications.
    * Choose Start > Run.
    * In the Open text box, type regedit and then press Enter. The Registry Editor opens.
    * In the left pane of the Registry Editor, locate the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adept
    * Select the Adept key.
    * Choose File > Export.
    * In the Export Registry File dialog box, select Selected Branch under Export Range. Enter a name and location for the backup registry key, and
    then click Save.
    * Right-click the Adept key and choose Delete.
    * In the Confirm Key Delete dialog, click OK.
    * Close the Registry Editor.
    * Open Adobe Digital Editions and reauthorize.

    This finally worked.

    Gosh. :-/
