Calibre is easy if you know the two simple steps (convert + save).

My recollection is both feel clumsy to use,
but that could be due to me not
getting into the mindset of the app authors.

Try this two minute test to see how easy it is to use Calibre to convert.

1. Obtain any EPUB file, perhaps by searching any free ebook library.

Arbitrarily, pick one "https://www.gutenberg.org/" and arbitrarily
pick a random search term such as "Vanguard", which comes up with
"The vanguard of Venus by Landell Bartlett" which is located at URL
"https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/72597"

Your choices of ebook formats are
a. Read online (web) 103 kB
b. EPUB3 (E-readers incl. Send-to-Kindle) 1.1 MB
c. EPUB (older E-readers) 1.1 MB
d. EPUB (no images, older E-readers) 142 kB
e. Kindle 1.7 MB
f. older Kindles 1.7 MB
g. Plain Text UTF-8 91 kB
h. Download HTML (zip)

Arbitrarily I chose the second choice in that list of

Search for something random, such as "Vanguard", which results
in a few books but let's pick the first one that shows up.
"https://zlibrary.to/top-vanguard-by-ann-aguirre-books" whose link is
"https://zlibrary.to/dl/vanguard-3" & tap the blue "Download" button
which creates a cloud link button saying "Download(EPUB)" which is
"https://cdn-3.zlibrary.to/v1/files/5ff69bb6-89c7-4df1-b287-985bb3041636/download?t=xWHwXxRblOLB4MVjCydoGrBpJZIRF7dD"
Name: Vanguard.epub
Size: 4509482 bytes (4403 KiB)

2. Now right click on each of those epub files and choose the context menu
that Calibre had automatically added for when you right click on epubs
of "Open with" & then "The main Calibre program" inside of Calibre.

Select both files inside Calibre and click the "Convert books" icon.
Select the "Output format" of "AZW3" and hit the OK button.
Select the "Output format" of "DOCX" and hit the OK button.
Select the "Output format" of "HTMLZ" and hit the OK button.
Select the "Output format" of "MOBI" and hit the OK button.
Select the "Output format" of "PDF" and hit the OK button.
Select the "Output format" of "PDF" and hit the OK button.
(Choose to convert from the EPUB to as many formats as you want.)
Wait for the "Jobs" count (at bottom right" to decrement back to 0.

3. With both files selected inside Calibre, click the "Save to disk" icon.
Pick a folder when asked, and press the button "Select a folder".

That's it.
You're done.
