    For .zip files, what 3rd-party software did you install to handle them?
    Peazip, a variant on 7-zip, will take care of the filetype associations
    when you install.

    In a command shell, what do you see when you run "assoc .zip"?

    Windows 11 is getting integration for a larger number of
    archive formats, very soon. It will be interesting to see
    what a mess that will make.

    There's no particular reason for them to back-port that to
    Windows 10, but it would likely be dead-easy to do so.

    Third party compression and decompression are likely to
    remain faster than the "new" feature.
