As Paul noted, the v8.x free editions(even the 8.x fee based edition)
will continue to run, like they do now, just no longer updated, supported
not really an issue - no support for free versions).
    - I'm using a paid 8.0 version build 7175 on this device. On my near
ancient Surface 3, the free 8.0 version, build 7279[1]
One can still obtain the 'Free' editions from 3rd party sites(still need
to register(email for install/registration code, assign license #)
    - e.g 3rd party MajorGeeks{2]
Multiple free old versions may be available on other sites, though the
only earlier free v8's I've used without incident or failure(image create
and restore, and only on the Surface device) in the last year are builds
    .6560, .6584, .7097, .7175. I also use ATI 2020 perpetual on the
Surface(it's image is smaller and a few minutes faster).

[1] 8.0.7279 is what the program and installer indicate, but never did
see a .7279 in the release notes. <http://updates.macrium.com/reflect/v8/v8.1.7401/details8.1.7401.htm>
    - The digital signature for .7279 is Jan 10, 2023
Not seeing in release notes, might be the difference in free or fee build numbers or just guessing - possibly a timing from download/install date
vs. me looking at release notes. The release notes does show the
    short-lived(1 week only] v 8.0.7280 released on Jan 10th 2023.

[2] MajorGeeks provides 8.0.7279 full 175 MB installer, other sites may
only provide the 5MB stub installer.
If downloading the full installer, install steps:
    - When running the downloaded file, in the options on the top, change
from the HOME Edition to FREE
    - Click Options, then choose Download Installer and PE Components
    - Uncheck Run Installer when downloaded
    - After the download is complete, run the setup to install

What I don't know, once 8.0 EOL is reached, if the ability to
    register/obtain registration-install code also ceases
    - i.e. a possible inability to reinstall unless the code was previously obtained, or worst case - not capable of being installed.

They do make some interesting claims.

For example, they could not find a "Con" for Clonezilla. Only "Pro" datapoints.

And they didn't test DriveImage XML. What is this world coming to.
You're supposed to test that one, because it functions
as an "anchor" for one end of your graphs. I don't think that
one uses a compressor for its data.

I'm of the opinion, that when it comes to backup software,
you have to do your own tests. Because ultimately, when the
shit hits the fan, you're the guy that cleans up the mess.

You can start with a "speed" table, and work from there.
The table is about 30% down the page.

you have to do your own tests. Because ultimately, when the
shit hits the fan, you're the guy that cleans up the mess.

You can start with a "speed" table, and work from there.
The table is about 30% down the page.

It's been a few years since I tested DI-XML(Runtime.org product)
A quick check shows the the latest version was in 2016 - V2.60
They do have a free version
The fee based commercial version(not sure if same version)is $100US for 5 licenses, 2 incidents or support and 1 yr for updates)
    - no clue what 'updates' mean.
If one looks at all their products, the release dates are all more than a
    few years old.
    - Small company? No periodic updates? Not sure where based US(Hawaii)
    or Europe(Germany,England, France)

Can I continue to use Macrium Reflect Free?

I asked the same question in alt.comp.freeware. Chances are you can
continue to use 8.x free for a while. AFAIK 6.x and 7.x free still work
as well. It's not like the software will suddenly stop working.

    Even in W11?

    Even in W11?

For the time being, W10 and W11 have the same technical requirements.

For W10 and W11, 6.3.1865 is the minimum version (will have no "error 9").
Any version 7 should be good enough for the "free" full backups.

    *******

If they're still available, some of the old versions are stored
this way on their site. You have to know a version number to try,
to generate a valid link to one (guessing would take too long).
I expect these will be removed, when the Free interval is closed
    for good.

Approx 100MB each (the WADK to prepare a rescue disc a particular
way, is a larger download). These just put the basic backup stuff
on your C: drive, and making the rescue disc is a separate issue.
But making the rescue CD is important, and is not a task to neglect.
Under the circumstances, you should make your rescue CD immediately
after installing this on C: . My rescue CD is on a USB stick (a V7.2)
