• Install the new cross-platform PowerShell

In a recent thread a powershell command was suggested.
I don't often run powershell but every time I do, it complains.

    powershell
    Windows PowerShell

    Try the new cross-platform PowerShell https://aka.ms/pscore6 https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/scripting/install/installing-powershell-on-windows

Is going to all that trouble of "installing the new powershell"
worth the effort or is the new ps no better than the old one?

My assumption is that if the new powershell was really better then why
wouldn't Microsoft just make the new the default powershell then?

Like they did with Edge over IE.
And like they did with the chrome Edge over the old Edge.

    Right?
    Or, am I missing something?

Which is the default ps on the new Microsoft Windows 11 release?
The new ps or the old ps?

It has a few niceties, the "problem" may be that you get used to the new niceties, then your scripts don't work properly on other people's
machines with just the bog-standard version installed.

    cross-platform? What platforms?

    Maybe different syntax?

Maybe they want testers before committing?

I don't know. Let me look at the link that is in the quote above.
Just looked. It says "Install PowerShell on Windows, Linux, and macOS."
What other platforms were you looking for?

    Those.

It is interesting that Microsoft writes a shell for all those systems.
If it gets traction it would be a good move for them.

Someone already confirmed the syntax is different and the default old powershell on Windows 10 is the same as the default one on Windows 11.

"In Windows PowerShell, the PowerShell executable is named powershell.exe.

In version 6 and above, the executable is named pwsh.exe. The new name
makes it easy to support side-by-side execution of both versions."
