• Screen keeps scrolling with one click

From micky@21:1/5 to All on Sun Feb 5 22:50:53 2023
My screen quckly scrolls vertically too far, maybe without stopping,
even though I click the mouse just once in the vertical scroll bar.

I changed mice, but it got no better.

Is there a setting to correct this?

Win 10 fully updated. Acer laptop.

I have no scrollbar on my Windows screen. Never have. I do have
scrollbars in some apps/programs. Stop hiding the details.

You're using a mouse, but do you have another hand close to or atop the touchpad? Did you try disabled the touchpad when a mouse is connected?

Not hiding details. It's all of the programs that have scroll bars.
Firefox, eudora, forte agent, notepad, etc.

No, I never touch it. Trying the touchpad now, it won't move the cursor
and its buttons won't do button-things.

Besides the touchpad, there are two mice in device manager. I don't
know why, They look identical. I've never had two mice connected at the
same time. I disabled the one I'm not using. I don't think this will
    help but maybe.

The problem seems to be not that there3 are two mice but that it
responds incorrectly to the only mouse.

Did you try disabled the touchpad when a mouse is connected?

You may try right-click on the mouse icon in Device Manager and choose "Uninstall device" and then reboot for Windows to reload the mouse
driver. If you uninstall the mouse that you are using, then you'll have
to use the touchpad to reboot, or Ctrl-Alt-Del and use the Tab key to
    move to the Power icon.

I don't like most of the strawman theories I constructed
so far, so I'll go with "accessibility mouse setting" of
    some sort.

How far is "too far?" The normal action is to scroll a full screen,
which could be "too far" for some people.

I suggest updating the mouse drive if an update is available.

Presumably you only have 1 USB mouse connected to your laptop. Are you plugging it into a USB port on the laptop, or into a USB hub that goes
to a laptop USB port. If using a USB hub, remove it and test with the
USB mouse connected directly to a laptop USB port.

A reboot should not be required. After removing the mice in Device
Manager (devmgmt.msc), right-click on the computer/root node in the
tree, and scan for new hardware.

A standard mouse will show up as a HID (Human Interface Device) device.
micky didn't tell us which mice he uses. Some are programmable, and may
show up as different types of devices.

5 or 10 full screens, until I do something to stop it.

I suggest updating the mouse drive if an update is available.

I'm using the built-in windows driver, 6/21/2006, but I only installed
windows 10 for the first time fall of 2021, so that must be the most
recent. And indeed, trying to update it using Device Manager resulted
    in no update.
