    When I try to download win 10 ISO using XP it stops part way and says
    source file can not be found, does not matter who I try to get it from.
    Would I have more success using an old slow win 7 laptop.

    Some replies to your same inquiry over in the Windows 10 newsgroup.

    The Windows 10 ISO download URL from Microsoft site is only valid for 24
    hours. After 24 hours, the URL no longer works and you'll have to request a
    new URL.

    If your internet access is slow and you need more than 24 hours to complete
    the dowmload, you'll have to use a trick. What you need is a proper download manager software to download the ISO (try "Free Download Manager"). Don't
    use so called "download manager" browser addon to download it, because they simply can't do the trick. And don't even bother using Microsoft provided "Media Creation Tool" software, because it can not resume an interrupted download.

    Once you have a download manager software, follow these steps. Read them all first, before you actually start downloading - so that you'll know the basic idea of the trick.

    1. Get a valid download URL of the ISO.
    Read below article on how to do it.

    <https://www.techpowerup.com/255823/psa-how-to-download-the-windows-10-1903-iso-from-ms-without-the-media-creation-tool>

    Short URL:
    <https://tinyurl.com/y2q6w2hg>

    After you've chosen the two options and be provided with 32-bit and 64-bit option buttons (which are actually links), don't click any of them. Instead, copy the link's URL into the clipboard via right-lick menu. Keep a note of
    the chosen options & link if you're forgetful.

    2. Create a new entry for download.
    In your download manager software, create a new download entry using the URL from the clipboard and save the downloaded file into an NTFS drive. Don't
    save it into a FAT32 drive, because it can't store files larger than 4GB.

    3. Download the ISO.
    Start the ISO download in the download manager software.

    When the download stopped because the file is no longer found in the
    server...

    4. Resume download using new URL.
    Perform the above step #1 to get a new download URL. Make sure you choose
    the exact same options and copy the URL from the exact download link. Edit
    the download entry in the download manager software.
    Replace the old URL with the new one from the clipboard.
    Resume the download.
    If the URL expires again, repeat this step #4.

    If when resuming the download, the download manager says that the file date
    or size has changed, it means that you did not use the exact same options & link in step #1.
