I continue to have problems with an external HD (Western Digital) that
wants to own all of my programs, files, Movis, Mp3 and Jpgs. Most of
the time if I want to access something on the drive I have to run
TAKEOWNERSHIP and then copy it to another HD to run, listen or look at
the files.
If I try to change the files name I get an error saying "Please remove
write protection:
SKINP
RETRY
ABORT
AS ADMIN
ALL AS ADMIN
and no answer is right.
PROPERTIES show me that I have WRITE access but under SPECIAL
PERMISSIONS there is a CHECK for
ALLOW (CHECKED)
DENYE (CHECKED Also).
TAKEOWNERSHIP removes both checks under special permissions and I can
then change the name. But I have to do it as the ADMIN.
Can someone tell me why this has happened? I never selected special permissions for all my files. It is a true pain in the ass. I
really an not even sure what has happened.
If I manually set the permission to allow READ and WRITE and I remove
the checks from SPECIAL PERMISSIONS, I can't do anything to the file.
Well, I cannot do much. I can play an MP3 but I cannot change the
name.
I really would appreciate help with this. I can't change permissions
on every file one at a time and whle the takeownership program does
help, it only just helps. Not a fix. I tried to read up on
permissions but it looks like it qucikly goes beyone my level of
undestanding. Maybe someone has a good answer like "Dude, you just
need to put a check mark HERE" or look on "YYYYYY Website, it is all
there on what you did to mess up and how to fix it." I don't believe
it is in my naming system like a few have suggested because many of
the files are just a one work name with no extra marks and they don't
work either. ex. BOB.exe Vs Bobs First Jpg 1900-01-01_-_Saturday.Jpg
If I can tell you more plase ask here , no email. I'm slow but I'll
reply in a few days....going on vacation.
