    And again..

Got it, over here using my D'Bridge newsgroup setup!

Good to see that seems to be working for you again. Will have to catch
    up on
    what needed to be done.

There were a few issues, One, moving from connect.0 & connect.99 to connect.net, it is necessary to remove 32767 from the top line or
    all
traffic for 32767 default to @1.
Also, during the transition, I commented out too many lines from net.inisuch that news.exe was puking when it couldn't find POPNAME
    or
    DOMAIN.
I haven't determined whether or not connect.99 or other files are
required anymore but if not, the docs are going to get a lot
    shorter for
    the new net.

I'm going to see if it is possible to edit the code such that POP
    is no
longer required and move the news info out of net.ini and into a
    news.ini.

Good to know, as I'm sure there will be others that will be interested
in setting this up. Not sure why you need the POPNAME and DOMAIN for
    NEWS to work.

We could probably update the NEWS source to remove those dependencies
since I don't know why they would be needed.

The source for NEWS.EXE uses the information from net.ini the
    POPNAME and
DOMAIN fields are used to generate your display name and email
    address
for the usenet server - not necessarily that which is displayed,
    but for
the message record I assume. Not entirely clear but looking it
    over, it
shouldn't take too much to separate the NEWS portion into its own
    entity
    with a news.ini in lieu of net.ini

Yes, I wouldn't think that would be a huge effort to get NEWS separated
    from the PPP Project setup.

Digging deeper, it looks like this would take more than simply hacking news.exe. network and/or networkp will need to be altered as well. When
cakking out for news using the standard network /N32767 .0, the first
call is POP and then NEWS. It's really a package deal. I'm sure it can
be done, just probably not by the likes of me. Just too wet behind the
ears when it comes to C++

Rushfan should be able to updated the network.exe parameters to remove
the legacy PPP Project stuff now that we are all switched over.

After we get WWIVNet sorted out that might be the best next project for
    us.

Considering all the changes we made over the past few weeks, I'm very
pleased with how stable things are at this point. I'm also looking
forward to getting NetUp working so that we can administer WWIVnet the
way it was many years ago.

Automatic updates, SUBS.LST updates (pings), etc. All the goodies!
