• TANDY Group?

From unixl0rd@80:505/12 to All on Tue May 2 19:14:22 2023
    Hi everyone,

I'm a TRS-80 enthusiast, and I was wondering if there is a Tandy group on this board.

    Cheers.

Nothing specific, but you can chat about it here if you like.

The first computer I used was a Video Genie, a TRS-80 clone with a built in tape deck. I'd love to get my hands on one of those. I did try an emulator and realized that maybe I don't.

That's cool. I looked it up on Wikipedia, and it seems like Video Genie is a model 1 clone.

My current collection includes a Coco 2, Coco 3, and a model 100. My model 100 needs to be recapped though.

Yup,I think so. As you saw, they have different names depending where in the world. Australia called them the Dick Smith System 80 and in the US they were PMC-80 I think. Makes it hard to track them down.

I'm really after a Dragon 32 from the UK and a Ti99/4A with some software (or I think it was firmware). I have a ZX Spectrum with a bad CPU that I'm in the middle of fixing. I managed to pull a couple of tracks while removing it. It was my first attempt so rookie mistake. I also have a Commodore 64 in bits with a suspected bad memory chip.

I'm also fixing a WiiU which is scattered ovre the living room floor, much to my wife's dispair.

We still use a TRS-80 model 4 at work. It runs an engraving machine. Two 5" floppies. And the engraving program is written in BASIC. It's a damn work horse! We've had to buy up some old TRS-80's on ebay to get spare parts. It's hard to fing many anymore.

And pricey too. Emulating the hardware might be a better option at this point (if possible).

That will probably be the next step. We have enough parts to last a bit.
