    Hi All,

As some of you might know, I'm not a huge movie, or tv, fan. But, there are some stories where after reading the books, you want to see them on the big-screen.

Many years ago, I read the Dune books. Having been more than a little bit disappointed by the movie adaptations in the past, I was a bit leery to watch the newest.

Well, yesterday, my wife, son and I went to see it in the theater, and were very impressed.

First, a lot of the dialog in the movie, was taken almost verbatim from the book. They were also able to create realistic looking visual effects that followed their descriptions in the book. (visualization of the shields comes to mind)

Yes, there were some parts of the story that were not included in this, part 1, movie. Perhaps they will work them into part 2.

Overall, this is a very good adaptation of the book. If you are a fan of Dune, or have at least read the first Dune book from Frank Herbert, you will not be disappointed.

I loathe most remakes, but I think that the original Dune, while a fine film, could use some improvement.Dune is one of the few cases in which it makes sense to remake it and try to improve what could be improved.

What I have heard about the remake is mostly negative, though.

I usually do too. The first one was alright, but I agree, it could use some improvements.

What I have heard about the remake is mostly negative, though.

While trying to decide if I wanted to go see it, I had been reading through a lot of the comments on different websites about it. It seems the people that were giving it negative comments were ones that didn't know the story before seeing it.

My son hadn't read Dune before seeing this release, and he said the beginning was a bit difficult to follow. Overall, he did enjoy it.

It also looks like they are planning on making part 2, and will start filming in July 2022, for a 2023 release. I'm looking forward to it.

Brings new meaning to 'the sleeper'. I found it dull, the costumes were horrible compared to the original Dune, characters were dumbed down and the epic parts [i.e. hand in the box] were washed out. I would go as far as to
    say it sucked.

I liked the Sci-Fi channel version, partly because it felt like with the miniseries format they didn't have to adapt the book to a screenplay. They took the book verbatim, it felt.

Yes, there were some parts of the story that were not included in this, part 1, movie. Perhaps they will work them into part 2.

One thing I wondered, I'll need to re-read the book. I thought Kynes was the one who spat on the floor in front of the Duke in Arakeen, not Stilgar. I didn't think they met in the book. It's been a while.

Overall, this is a very good adaptation of the book. If you are a fan

Looking forward to part 2, the best part of the story.

Yeah, the box could have been better, even better than the wax hand of the Lynch version - with today's CGI it could be horrifying.
