    Why has this area not 'popped up' on my bbS yet? Normally when FTNs add an area, I see it - but just have to change its settings... i haven't seen FSX_LFE so far.

    I don't know about other BBS software, but at least with Synchronet, new FTN areas don't just appear - You have to add a message area for it in your BBS configuration, then configure your BBS software to map it to the FTN name, then send an areafix message to your FTN hub to add it for you.

    Mystic has a way to do this automatically. It's a pretty nifty feature! I see random subs once in a while that I'd never otherwise know about, so I appreciate the functionality.

    Ah, that's cool.
    I wonder if a script could be written for Synchronet to update its configuration files to add a message area when a new one appears in a FTN group.. Such a script might be even easier now that Synchronet (in its 3.20 development codebase) has its configuration files in .ini format (plain text).

    i guess to clarify, it only creates the group when you've linked to it (with areafix, or are auto/force-linked like i think FSX_LFE might have been?) and it receives messages to a previously unknown group.

    in no way does it check anywhere to see if there are new groups and then attempt to link to them.

    Yeah, I imagine a script may be able to detect whether you've linked to it with areafix (perhaps by checking your emails) and only adding it then.

    Those steps can be automated with Synchronet (SBBSecho): https://wiki.synchro.net/util:sbbsecho#area_file

    and SCFG can be used to auto-import new areas from echostats.ini (generated by SBBSecho).

    Yep - I got her setup today just fine...

    On some other FTNs, new areas just pop up - but they must have it setup differently whether thats correct or not. :P All good w/ an AreaFix message;

    In this case not everyone was linked to it by default. I have mixed views about that, but here we are, anyone can areafix it :)
