    OK, here goes:

So, if you dont mind, I'm up for an experiment.

This message will have a long line in it (like the ones Oli has been sending), and will be exported from me to 2/100 and 3/100.

    Here it is: 01234567890ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ01234567890ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ01234

    567890ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ01234567890ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ0123456789

    EF
(If I have done my maths and pasting correctly, it is 8 iterations of 36 chars 0-9A-Z - 288 chars, so breaking that 256 char limit that seems to be here.)

What I'm going to test, is that 3/100 does not send it to 2/100 - because 2/100

should already be in the SEEN-BY line. At the same time, 2/100 shouldnt try to send it to 3/100 (I'll watch to see if it comes in).

After the Hub's get the message, both 2/100 and 3/100 will export it to 1/100 and 4/100, so those 2 systems should see the second copy as a dupe - and it should be safely discarded.

The theory is - those on Hub 2 and 3 should not get a dupe at all - since the message should only be sent once to those hubs.

If you are on Hub 1 and 4, and you get a dupe, then 2 things are broken - your Hub sent you both copies (we should try and understand why), and your BBS imported it them (and if both copies were different, that would make sense - but otherwise if they we
As a bit of fun, any bets on who sends it to 1/100 and 4/100 first?

Yep, it's a conundrum that we are in today. It's not g00r00's doing, it's something that he and other BBS developers need to contend with.

Back in the BBS heydays I think most everyone was using an 80x25 terminal. Even

today I am using an 80x30 terminal for BBSing.

You'll notice my paragraphs are short these days. :)

The idea to use long lines for paragraphs is a good one. The text can be wrapped dynaically for the readers screen size instead of an 80x25 screen that may or may not be used.

Can you guys with different software post some >256 character paragraphs so we can see what happens?

I think this wrapping is quite popular among different BBS software.

But regardless of wrapping characters or not tossers should never change mail in transit.

I don't think we need further tests. It is already established that Mystic 2020/03/26 and 2020/03/29 builds don't do line wrapping for in-transit mail anymore, but lines/paragraphs gets truncated after character 255.

    Hello Oli,

It seems there is another bug in Mystic with long-lines. It adds a whitespace after 80 characters in quotes.

I think that's because Mystic has always had these messages wrapped at <80 characters so it has never needed to deal with that.

BBSs that wrap message text at <80 characters are not affected by losing characters at 255 characters because it never happens when they wrap text on export, or when saved.

Only text in long lines gets truncated.
