From Black Panther@21:1/186 to All on Sun Dec 9 19:01:42 2018
    Hi All,

I was looking at upgrading my experimental Mystic setup to the new
pre-release of Mystic. According to the upgrade instructions, it says:

    - Copy "cfgroot4.ans" from the DATA folder into your DATA folder

In the Linux 64bit install of A40, I'm not seeing this cfgroot4.ans file. I
    see cfgroot.ans, cfgroot1.ans, cfgroot2.ans, and cfgroot3.ans...

    Anyone else run into this?

I am yet to get home, but at the time I had no upgrade info when I shifted so
I winged it. Will check the build tonight and see :)

Yep I forgot to put it in the DATA folder but I've since fixed it in later builds. It isn't going to cause any major issues if it is missing just that the "Turbo Vision" theme won't display right if you select it.

You can just copy it over later.

Just downloaded the latest, and it did have the file. I've got it now! ;)

How's it working on your end? I was a little leery to upgrade CRBBS with the password issues in the first release. Any problems that should keep me from trying it?

I've been a gluten for punishment lately... :)

There's been a crash each night for the last two builds but so far so good
for this one. Passwords, hard to say. I have a user asking for a reset today but I am unsure if it's related or not. I did apply the latest password patch to the BBS as per g00r00's suggestion. So that may have fixed things, unsure.

Can you spin up a VM and duplicate CRBBS on it... you can do all the testing you like and find the flaws specific to your setup.

    Yep quite an odd one.

Logged in as my "satchmo" user on agency. Input my password, got the
"invalid password" message. Tried again, same thing. Hit enter it
    logged me in anyway! :-/

Ah yeah. There may be a problem - I just logged into agency as satchmo, I
just hit enter at the password prompt and it let me in.

When I did it as apam, It said invalid password and didn't let me in.

I wonder if satchmo (and anyone else with "invalid password") can log in
with an empty password then change it to something else themselves?

Something is amiss but it seems to be random. I have tried both fixes
suggested by g00r00 but it did not resolve this specific case.

People found and installed the pre-alphas before the upgrade had the proper password conversion.

There are instructions to place your original users.dat in and rerun the upgrade, so hopefully that would resolve any issues. Should also be running the latest build Dec 11 I think?

I have tried this and seemed to have issues still with an account that the problem of a blank/missing pw was picked up on. I moved copies of mystic.dat
in /mystic and also users.dat in /data over

Then ran the upgrade process also tried upgrade passwords... problem
continued with the identified account. In the end I did a manual PW reset on it. I also had to update the SMTP settings again as they went west with the mystic.dat update

I'm thinking about just setting up a mandatory password change every 45 days
to pick up these rogue issues as there's just no way to know which accounts
are impacted and which are not.

Would you be willing to send over your users.dat from A39 backup if you still have it? I can take a look at the process and determine exactly what is happening.

If not I totally understand. I really try to never ever ask for a users.dat because obviously it has people's information in it. (One of the benefits of the new format is no longer will it ever be possible to get a password of a user though).
