• IC-705 - Great radio...

From InfectedBootSector@21:4/174 to All on Wed Feb 2 04:47:20 2022
    Hi all,

Just figured I'd poke my head in and say hello.

I pre-ordered an IC-705 when they were announced and it arrived in late 2020. I haven't had an opportunity due to work to really put it through it's paces in the year I've had it, but so far, it's an impressive setup, and makes the FT-817 I replaced it with feel pretty ancient in comparison. I'm still a huge Yaesu fan, but looking forward to getting out and doing some mountain-top contacts with this one...

that thing looks beautiful but to complicated for what i need, i might mess with a 7000 but i like the 706 better seems easyer to operate and i like the monochrome display. if the ic7000 came down in price id probably go for one. the 705 looks to complicated, and i need a mobile rig.

I've heard great things about the IC-705. I only wish they had built in an antenna tuner. I've had my eyes on the IC-9700 for a couple of years now, but haven't been able to justify it's cost.

I was tempted by the 705, but ended up going with an FT-818, which had the features I needed at about 60% of the price.

It's a tool in the toolbox. My friend has one, and it's nice, but for general field use I like the KX3 better. That said, the 705's screen makes hunting and pecking during a contest a million times easier.

I used to feel the same way about the antenna tuner, but for a field radio the only reason I'd need one is if I can't get a real antenna up into a tree.
