• EchoMail vs. Posting to

From Kaelon@21:1/183 to All on Tue May 3 08:25:34 2022
I just noticed that when I receive notices on a BBS about some of the posts made to me (on FSX, in particular) appear as "Soandso has sent an EchoMail to you on FSX.GEN," while others will appear as "Soandso has posted to you on NET.General."

What's the difference between the two? Aren't they both public posts to a networked message base?

Is that on a Synchronet BBS? The difference may be that one network is a FTN network (which would probably be FSXNet) and the other might be a QWK-networked message network.

For Synchronet, it used to be that it would only notify you of new replies on FTN-networked message boards (the notifications would come from its sbbsecho utility), but there was a request from someone to have Synchronet give you similar notices for QWK-networked message areas, and Digital Man (author of Synchronet) added that.

Yes, it's on this system - Ventrauen. I got the FTN network notice for FSXnet, and then the different messaging for the QWK-networked message network in DOVE-Net.

Makes perfect sense about the difference. I just didn't realize. Thank you! _____

Yes, they are two different echoes and the BBS is just letting you know that someone addressed a public message to you on those echoes.

It's actually that Synchronet uses the different wording depending on whether it's an FTN echo or a QWK-networked message area.

That doesn't answer what he actually asked.

It's already been properly answered, but just for you, one is the
notification in a QWK network, and the other is what is seen in a FTN
    network.
